Pokémon Legends ZA could be released on a new console

A relatively sparse Pokémon presentation ended with the explosive reveal of Pokémon Legends ZA. The next installment, following the wildly popular Pokémon Legends Arceus, takes us back to the Kalos region and has the potential to answer some lingering questions.

The most exciting part of Pokémon Legends: ZA is the return of Mega Evolution. The prospect of a Mega Evolution for Incineroar has potential players impatient.

Although Mega Evolution was confirmed during the game’s reveal, some speculations are also gaining traction and generating even more excitement. Fans of the franchise are convinced that Pokémon Legends: ZA will launch on the Nintendo Switch 2.

Why do fans think Pokémon Legends: ZA will come to the Switch 2?

The main reason for the speculation is a recent rumor which reports that the Nintendo Switch 2 is scheduled to launch in March 2025. The same year as the expected release of Pokémon Legends: ZA.

“What if the Switch 2 offered Mario 3D and Pokémon Legends Year 1?” asks Nintendo-oriented user Stealth on X. “It has been speculated that Nintendo has moved the Switch 2 to 2025 to further strengthen the first-party lineup. If Pokémon Legends ZA was one of the reasons, I understand.”

“My current theory as to why they didn’t show any gameplay is that it would obviously be ‘too good’ for the Switch, so it would reveal things from the Switch 2 too soon,” another user replied. “I wouldn’t be surprised if in the first preview of the next Legends system ZA is in it.”

Another detail that players latched on to was some language used in the reveal which claimed that Pokémon Legends: ZA will launch on Nintendo Switch systems. The emphasis here is on the plural. Unfortunately, this has been debunked as Nintendo frequently uses this language to include the Switch OLED and Switch Lite consoles.

Whether Pokémon Legends: ZA will launch at the same time as the Nintendo Switch 2 cannot currently be confirmed and we will have to wait for more news.

The game will definitely launch on current-gen Switch consoles, so there’s no need to worry about having to wait for the next iteration to play.
