Pokemon Scarlet and Violet 2025 Grand Challenge I: Schedule, Rewards, and Banned Pokémon List

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet is launching the competitive season with the 2025 Grand Challenge I.

This event, part of the Gen 9 games, allows participants to compete against others and earn Championship Points. The top point earners of the season will qualify for next year’s Pokemon World Championships in Anaheim, California.

The 2025 Grand Challenge I is an excellent opportunity to start the competitive year on a high note, so here’s everything you need to know about the event and how to get involved.

Entry Details & Event Dates

The sign-up period for the 2025 Grand Challenge I opened on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, at 5 pm PDT and will close on Thursday, September 19 at 4:59 pm PDT.

The competition dates are from Thursday, September 19, 2024, at 5 pm PDT to Sunday, September 22, 2024, at 4:59 pm PDT.

To register, follow these steps:

  1. Open the X menu in Pokemon Scarlet or Violet
  2. Select Poke Portal
  3. Select Battle Stadium
  4. Select Online Competitions
  5. Go to Official Competitions and click Search for a competition

Remember, you’ll need to register your Battle Team when you sign up.

In line with typical competitive Pokemon matches, the 2025 Grand Challenge I will feature Double Battles.

The competition will have three divisions based on participants’ birth years:

  • Junior Division: Born in or after 2013
  • Senior Division: Born between 2009 and 2012
  • Masters Division: Born in or before 2008

Most Pokemon from Scarlet and Violet are eligible for this competition, including those introduced in The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero expansion.

However, certain Pokemon are prohibited, including:

Banned Pokemon

  • Any Pokemon not available in Scarlet and Violet
  • Paradox Pokemon
  • Legendary Pokemon
  • Mythical Pokemon

Note that Ogerpon and the Loyal Three (Okidogi, Munkidori, and Fezandipiti) from The Teal Mask DLC are banned despite being allowed in previous competitive events.

Rewards

All players who complete at least three matches during the event, regardless of their win-loss record, will receive:

  • 100,000 League Points
  • Gold Bottle Cap ×1
  • Ability Patch ×1
