Pokémon Scarlet & Purple players believe that the weakest Pokémon from the first generation, Magikarp, should have gotten a Paradox form thanks to an interesting story in the game.
One of the new items introduced by Pokémon Scarlet & Purple are Paradox Pokémon. Depending on which version is played, trainers may encounter ancient Pokémon or futuristic monsters.
A variety of Paradox Pokémon could be found in the base game, but others were introduced in both waves of DLC, such as Walking Wake or Iron Crown.
However, one iconic Pokémon from the first generation never had a Paradox form: Magikarp. Thanks to an interesting story in the game, some fans think this flailing fish could have been an interesting Paradox for the Scarlet version.
Pokémon Scarlet & Purple fans want a Paradox Magikarp
A post on the Pokémon Scarlet & Purple subreddit sparked a discussion among fans after a player made a post titled, “There should have been a Magikarp Paradox.”

The original poster then explained his logic and said, “One of Magikarp’s Pokedex entries talks about how his old form is less pathetic; and how strong she is. So why not have a Paradox Magikarp?” the trainer asked.
Several Pokedex entries over the years have hinted that Magikarp was “a bit stronger”in the distant past than its current form, however, the entry in Pokémon Purple hammers home this point.
Violet’s Pokedex entry for Magikarp reads, “In the distant past, he was quite a bit stronger than the horribly weak descendants that exist today.”
The original poster theorized that this Paradox Magikarp might have much more Speed and Defense, but mediocre Special Defense. Fans in the comments liked the idea and offered their own suggestions for this monster theoretical paradox.
“Give him the Water/Dragon type because Gyarados lost the Dragon type due to his indiscipline,” one fan said.
Others thought that a Futuristic version of the Pokémon could also work. “Iron Sub. Make it a submarine. Since the future will be greener, maybe make it run on pedals,” another player suggested.
Alternatively, some thought the idea could still be implemented, but in a future Legends title. “They could save that for a Legends form like in Hisui.”
Whether or not fans will see this ancient incarnation of Magikarp remains to be seen, but it would certainly please trainers to see a Magikarp that isn’t so weak.
