Pokemon Scarlet & Violet: A Missed Opportunity for Player Housing

Despite their charming appearance, the dorm rooms in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet are a missed chance for players to express themselves and customize their experience in the game.

For Pokemon players, one aspect that always excites them is the chance to showcase their personal style in their chosen game. Each game puts its own unique twist on customization, with some offering a plethora of clothing options while others may have a more limited selection.

Despite not being groundbreaking, the character customization options in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet are sufficient. A common complaint from fans upon the game’s release was the inability to change out of the default school uniform and create new outfits throughout the game.

While it is understandable for the player character to always be in uniform, the unchanging dorm rooms at the Academy do not make sense.

In the early stages of the game, you are introduced to the dorm rooms, which have a lovely appearance. While the space may seem a bit empty, it is well-planned and comfortable, providing your character with a pleasant place to relax during their time at school. However, there is limited potential for customization in this area.

If you have experience with other Pokemon games that featured Secret Bases, you might have anticipated some level of personalization upon entering your room for the first time. Previous titles offered player housing options with customizable decorations, so it’s understandable to wonder why Scarlet & Violet does not have this feature.

In Mesagoza, players could have visited the shops to purchase small trinkets or new blankets. Additionally, they could have displayed their in-game photos on the wall. The kitchen could have also been used for making sandwiches, with the possibility of receiving a special “homemade”bonus for dorm-made food.

This sentiment was also shared by Pokemon fans in a recent discussion on the game on Reddit. Many players expressed disappointment in the dorm rooms, stating that they were a missed opportunity and that a Secret Base-style area would have greatly enhanced the game’s overall experience.

There are numerous aspects of the Scarlet & Violet games that were commendable but had the potential to be exceptional – and this is one of them. It is hoped that future installments in the Pokemon series will offer players greater opportunities to customize and showcase their in-game accomplishments and mementos.

Since Pokemon Legends Z-A is set in Lumiose City, it would be interesting if players were able to have their own apartment or underground Secret Base. While there has been no official confirmation of this idea, it would be thrilling to see it included in the upcoming Pokemon game.
