Pokemon Scarlet & Violet Fans Debate the Worst Gym Test in Gen 9

In the Pokemon franchise, the tradition of Gym Leaders administering tests before a battle was continued by Scarlet & Violet. However, some fans argue that certain tests are significantly more challenging than others.

The Pokemon series has continued its trend of shaking up the traditional Gym formula, which began in Generation 7, and has carried on into Scarlet & Violet.

Instead of having trainers idly waiting to battle, with the Gym Leader as the final obstacle, players must now pass various tests before they can obtain their badge.

Regrettably, the Pokemon community does not view all Gym tests as being of the same quality. This has led to a heated discussion among Scarlet and Violet trainers about which Gym test is the most challenging.

A discussion was initiated on the Pokemon Scarlet & Violet subreddit when a fan brought attention to the Alfornada Gym’s Emotional Spectrum Practice test. This took place on the subreddit’s thread titled “Can We All Agree Alfronada Has the Worst Gym Test?”

The Alfornada Gym test is similar to a game of Simon Says for those who are unfamiliar with it. During this test, trainers and their Pokemon are required to press a button that corresponds to the emotion requested by Dendra.

“One trainer expressed that while Simon Says had the potential to be a fun activity, it ultimately proved to be too simple and slow. They suggested that the game could practically do the tasks for you.”

Despite the general consensus that Alfornada is the least favorable gym, there were some who disagreed and cited the Cortondo Gym test as evidence, particularly the notorious Olive Roll minigame. One player argued, “I may not be fond of Alfornada, but at least I’m not struggling with a clumsy bean on an obstacle course.”

Additionally, there were a significant number of fans who were fatigued with Gym tests in general and preferred the previous format of Gyms. These Gyms were designed as mazes with trainer battles scattered throughout.

Although Gyms have evolved significantly in Generation 9, dedicated fans can still anticipate battling a Gym Leader at the final stage.
