Pokemon Scarlet & Violet: Which version has the best exclusive Pokemon?

Similar to all previous games in the series, Pokemon Scarlet & Violet were released with two distinct versions. If you’re unsure which one to buy, here is a list of all the version-exclusive Pokemon in Gen IX, including those found in the DLC.

Ever since Pokemon Red & Blue were first released in 1996, players have been presented with a difficult dilemma: which version should they purchase? This decision is especially challenging for those who can only buy one Pokemon game, as it ultimately depends on which version offers the most desirable exclusive content.

Over the last 25 years, a new generation of Pokemon has been introduced through a pair of games, each containing exclusive Pokemon that can only be found in that specific title. These include box Legendaries, pseudo-Legendaries from previous generations, and a variety of other popular Pokemon among fans.

Staying true to their predecessors, Pokemon Scarlet & Violet for Gen IX uphold the tradition. To assist players in their purchase decision, here is a comprehensive list of all version-exclusive content available in each game. Which is better: Scarlet or Violet?

From our perspective, it can be argued that Violet possesses superior exclusives. The inclusion of Paradox Pokemon such as Iron Leaves and Iron Thorns outweighs the offerings of Scarlet. Additionally, while Gen III creatures like Salamence, Kyogre, and Zekrom may be present, they are only marginally more impressive than those found in Scarlet.

Nevertheless, it should be noted that the two still possess highly influential exclusives.

Differences between Pokemon Scarlet & Violet

Version exclusive professors in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet
The Pokemon Company

Pokemon Scarlet & Violet featured two professors that are exclusive to each game.

The version-exclusive Pokemon mentioned earlier are typically the most crucial factor for players when choosing their game. However, there are other distinctions to consider, such as the outfits and professors showcased in the game.

The trainers who select Pokemon Scarlet will receive Professor Sada, whereas those who opt for Pokemon Violet will be assigned Professor Turo. This marks the first instance of a Pokemon game including version-specific professors.

In Scarlet & Violet, players will notice a major distinction in the school uniforms that their characters wear. Depending on which version of the game is played, the character will attend either Naranja Academy in Pokemon Scarlet or Uva Academy in Pokemon Violet.

The orange fruit is the emblem of Naranja, while Uva’s insignia prominently displays grapes, highlighting their importance in the Paldea region. The characters’ sleeves also bear their school crests and colors, along with their corresponding uniform colors. Other than their outward appearances, there are no notable distinctions between the main protagonists.
