In response to significant criticism, the developers of the Pokémon TCG Pocket have reaffirmed their decision to implement a new currency system for trades, while also introducing a concession aimed at addressing player concerns.
Many players of Pokémon TCG have expressed frustration with the recent changes to the trading mechanics, particularly focusing on the introduction of **Trade Tokens**.This new requirement compels players to surrender duplicate cards, which has sparked controversy within the community. The crux of the issue revolves around players who have already converted duplicates into **Flair**, a cosmetic enhancement that adds visual appeal to their cards. With the advent of Trade Tokens, this previously valued Flair has been rendered nearly obsolete, prompting queries about the rationale behind such a polarizing update.
Adding to the complexity, the game now features a **stamina system** that restricts the number of trades players can engage in, along with specific limitations on which cards can be exchanged. Players have voiced their discontent with these imposed restrictions, emphasizing a preference for more flexibility in trading. This backlash has compelled the developers to respond to the community’s grievances.
Developers Acknowledge Concerns but Maintain Trade Token System
Despite widespread calls urging the complete removal of Trade Tokens, the developers of Pokémon TCG Pocket have opted for a different approach to enhance the trading experience. Instead of eliminating the system outright, they indicated intentions to improve the functionality of the trading feature.

The developers acknowledged the valid concerns presented by players, stating, “We understand that some of the restrictions put in place are preventing players from being able to casually enjoy the feature as intended. We are actively investigating ways to improve the feature to address those concerns.” To this end, they plan to increase the distribution of Trade Tokens during in-game events, offering a small relief for players frustrated by the current state of trading. However, some fans remain disillusioned, desiring a more comprehensive reformation of the trading model.
Regarding the rationale for retaining the restrictions, the developers explained, “The item requirements and restrictions implemented for the trade feature were designed to curb abuse from bots and mitigate other prohibited actions involving multiple accounts.” As it stands, players must adapt to the existing system while the developers work towards potential improvements.
