Popular streamer Pokimane has made her stance clear that she will not be joining Kick, stating that the platform allows for “insane”behavior and she has no interest in being associated with it.
Despite being one of Twitch’s most-followed streamers, Imane ‘Pokimane’ Anys made the decision in January not to renew her exclusive contract with the company due to its problematic moderation issues.
Despite this, Poki has remained firm in her stance against signing a deal with one of Twitch’s major competitors, Kick. She has expressed her strong opposition to joining the site due to its connections to online gambling and the types of content allowed on the platform.
Pokimane has historically been against streaming on Kick.
She reaffirmed her stance in an August 2024 livestream, during which she responded to a YouTube video analyzing the actions of Kick streamer Tomer Lawton. The video alleged that Lawton had engaged in inappropriate behavior with minors, which he supposedly broadcasted live on Kick.
While she was viewing the hour-long expose, a viewer jokingly inquired about her potential interest in signing up with Kick.
“Did you hear what he just said?”Anya asked. “Isn’t that considered behavior that would land someone in jail, or am I crazy? It has to be against the law, right?”
Despite Lawton being the most well-known, he is not the only Kick streamer who has faced criticism for their actions. Other streamers, such as Johnny Somali and Jack Doherty, have also gained notoriety for their controversial behavior during their broadcasts on the website.
In a similar situation, Somali ended up in a Japanese prison for trespassing on a construction site and making discriminatory comments towards locals in the country. Similarly, Jack Doherty has also participated in risky behavior such as hitting baseballs off the roof of a building.
Despite implementing new measures to moderate “problematic”content on its platform, Kick still receives criticism due to streamers like Tomer Lawton, causing mainstream content creators like Pokimane to distance themselves from the site.
