The release of police bodycam footage has unveiled a series of traffic stops involving well-known tech YouTuber Marques Brownlee, famously recognized as MKBHD. This revelation comes as Brownlee, who specializes in reviewing technology—including smartphones, AI developments, and electric vehicles—navigates recent controversies surrounding his driving habits.
Back in November 2024, Brownlee found himself in the spotlight after he included a segment in one of his videos where he was recorded driving at an alarming speed of 96 mph in a 35 mph zone marked with warning signs indicating children nearby. Although the video was promptly removed following public outcry, the incident has reignited discussions about his driving record.
Prominent in the tech review realm, Marques Brownlee has a broad audience on YouTube.
Multiple Traffic Stops Documented in Bodycam Footage
A recent upload by the YouTube channel ‘Transparency Bodycam’ on December 15 brought to light a compilation of traffic stops involving Brownlee, revealing incidents dated June 30, 2023, June 16, 2024, and August 11, 2024.
During the first stop on June 30, 2023, Brownlee was pulled over while driving his Tesla, notably due to excessively tinted windows. Compounding the situation, he did not have his driver’s license on hand during the encounter.
On June 16, 2024, Brownlee’s speed reached 59 mph in a 25 mph zone, resulting in another traffic stop where an officer informed him of accumulating two points on his driving record for previous speeding offenses. Surprisingly, rather than issuing a speeding ticket, the officer opted to give him a citation for “unclear plates,”which incurred a minor penalty of up to $55.
In a separate incident on August 11, 2024, Brownlee faced yet another citation for similar issues related to his vehicle’s plates after an officer approached him at a gas station in Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey.
This surge of new footage emerges just weeks after the public criticized Brownlee for his previously mentioned speeding incident, intensifying scrutiny from fans, commentators, and fellow content creators alike.
As of now, Marques Brownlee has not released any comments on the latest footage, which has reportedly amassed over 43,000 views within just one day of being posted online.
