Popeye’s is following in the footsteps of Wingstop and Papa John’s by expanding their menu to include boneless chicken wings in six different flavors, straying from their usual offering of fried chicken.
There has long been a discussion among food enthusiasts about whether boneless wings are simply glorified chicken nuggets. Popeye’s is now offering free chicken in an effort to win over those who are skeptical.
In an attempt to see if they could change his ways, they even collaborated with Jimmy O. Yang, a well-known non-believer, comedian, and actor from Silicon Valley and Crazy Rich Asians.
Are boneless chicken wings a lie?
It appears that Yang’s argument has garnered widespread support online, as evidenced by the heated discussions on Reddit that have been ongoing for some time. Furthermore, there has even been a lawsuit filed against Buffalo Wild Wings for their usage of the term “wings”to describe boneless wings.
The debate often arises from the terminology used, as chicken wings in their natural form do contain bones. However, boneless chicken wings are not simply chicken wing meat without bones, but are instead made entirely from chicken breast. In this sense, they can be considered misleading as the meat does not originate from an actual chicken wing.
However, despite the ongoing debate, one cannot deny that they are more convenient to eat and the delectable sauce covering them makes it hard to care about the controversy.

In addition to the ongoing debate, Popeye’s new boneless wings flavors have caused quite a stir. The selection includes classic, honey lemon pepper, signature hot, honey BBQ, sweet ‘n spicy, and roasted garlic parmesan, all of which are equally enticing.

After Yang had tasted their new wings, Popeye’s confidence in their ability to convert someone was reaffirmed. This was evident when they interviewed him, further proving that their confidence was justified.

Yang confessed, “I must admit, I was not pretending. I never thought I would say this, but I am now a true believer in their boneless wings,”in a statement to Food & Wine. “Popeyes has proven me wrong with their amazingly delicious boneless wings. I used to be a critic, and honestly, I have always been skeptical. However, after trying them, I am blown away. If these wings could change my opinion, they can change anyone’s.”
