Popular Steam FPS Title ‘Implodes’ Following Developer’s Prison Sentence

The future of the retro first-person shooter, Fortune’s Run, has been thrown into uncertainty following the sentencing of its developer, known as Dizzie, to three years in prison. The game, which draws inspiration from classics like Doom and Quake, has cultivated a dedicated following on Steam, where it earned a ‘Very Positive’ rating. Unfortunately, due to the legal challenges Dizzie has faced, the project will be paused during her incarceration.

Developer’s Announcement and Legal Troubles

In a recent update posted on the official Steam community page, Dizzie shared the unfortunate news that she will be stepping away from her project to serve her sentence. She clarified, “I’ve been sentenced to prison for the next 3 years. It’s a long story, but I’ve lived a very different life before I was a game developer.” This indicates a tumultuous background leading up to her current situation, which has influenced the development of Fortune’s Run significantly.

Dizzie further elaborated, “I have finally been found guilty and sentenced, and I’m going away next month. It’s a shame, but it’s the consequences of my actions.” While she did not disclose specific details regarding the nature of her conviction, she acknowledged her past actions, stating, “I was a very violent person and I hurt a lot of people in my life.”

The Team and Game Status

Compounding the challenges, another developer responsible for quality assurance and some level design has departed from the team. Dizzie reassured fans that this individual is not involved in her legal issues but simply chose to step away from game development entirely. Regarding the status of Fortune’s Run, Dizzie stated, “there’s not very much content left to work on,” indicating that the project was nearing completion prior to this setback.

Addressing her dedicated fan base, Dizzie expressed her sadness about the situation, noting, “I know many of you will be upset and disappointed but please understand that there’s absolutely nothing I can do.” She emphasized that the legal issues began to unfold long before she embarked on the journey of game development, leaving her feeling overwhelmed.

Despite the bleak outlook, Dizzie remains passionate about her craft, stating, “I am extremely passionate about this stuff and I’m never going to stop making games.” She expressed a strong desire to complete Fortune’s Run, stressing, “I just want to finish it. Seriously, I just want to finish it. Finish it already, Dizzie!” This plea resonates with fans eager to see the completion of a game they already hold in high regard.

To quell any speculation regarding her conviction, Dizzie clarified that her legal troubles do not stem from a sexual offense, yet chose not to elaborate on the specifics of her case.
