Possible Announcements for San Diego Comic-Con 2024: Thor 5, X-Men & More

Fans from all over the globe are eagerly traveling to San Diego Comic-Con 2024, eagerly seeking more information about their beloved franchises and series.

Unfortunately, not everyone has the opportunity to attend the most nerdy event of the year, but that’s where we can help. We have the complete schedule for SDCC 2024 and we will make sure to continually update you with the most recent and thrilling announcements as they are announced.

Keeping that in mind, we understand that some of you are eager to uncover all of the show’s secrets before the con officially begins on Thursday. So, as a special treat, we have searched the internet, consulted our sources, and made some informed predictions to compile a list of the most fascinating rumors circulating before the Con’s opening.

Caution: the following contains unofficial information, rumors, and theories (the most entertaining parts). If you want to experience SDCC 2024 without any hints or spoilers (can a convention be spoiled?), it may be best to skip this and check out our list of top sci-fi movies instead.

The Boys

Homelander in The Boys Season 4 finale
Prime Video

Panel schedule: Friday, 26th at 10am-11am, PT (Hall H)

Based on our sources, there seems to be little speculation surrounding The Boys panel. However, it has been confirmed that the majority of the cast will be present in Hall H for the panel.

It is probable that we will receive further information about Gen V Season 2, including a potential release date. However, it is unlikely that a trailer will be released as Gen V has only been filming its second season for a few months. While not completely impossible, it seems unlikely at this point.

It is likely that we will receive some updates on The Boys Season 5, but production has not yet begun and the scripts have not been fully completed. This leads us to believe that the panel will focus mostly on celebrating the success of The Boys Season 4, although it wouldn’t be unexpected if they shared some exciting details during the panel.

Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power Season 2

Panel schedule: The panel will take place on Friday 26 at 11:05am PT in Hall H.

The highly anticipated return of Lord of the Rings is in line with the upcoming release of Season 2 of Rings of Power in late August. While there is not much buzz online about the potential events of the panel, fans are confident that a new trailer will be unveiled, which is highly likely. Apart from that, it is unlikely that there will be any unexpected announcements and the panel will mostly focus on building excitement for the upcoming second season.

Doctor Who

Doctor Who Season 15: Ncuti Gatwa as the Doctor in Doctor Who
BBC/Disney+

Panel Schedule: Friday, July 26th, 12:30pm to 1:30pm PT (Hall H)

The Doctor and Ruby are interrupting their travels through the cosmos to attend San Diego Comic-Con and will be dominating Hall H on Friday, 26. While the topic of the Doctor Who panel is quite predictable, the thrilling update is that a surprise preview will be revealed during the event.

Despite no official announcement from the BBC and Disney, fans have noticed Ncuti Gatwa filming in various locations across the UK for several months. This has sparked speculation that the first trailer for Season 15 of Doctor Who may be released during the upcoming event.

Hazbin Hotel Rumors

Although Hazbin Hotel is not hosting an official panel at SDCC 2024, its creator, Vivienne Medrano, will be participating in the “Conversation with Prime Video’s Adult Animation Creators”panel.

The press release for the event has hinted at “exclusive information,”leading to speculation that we will receive updates on the anticipated release date for Hazbin Hotel Season 2.

Walking Dead Rumors and Speculation

Maggie and Negan look down at something in The Walking Dead: Dead City
AMC

The Dead City panel will take place on Friday, August 26 from 1:45 to 2:45pm in Hall H. The Book of Carol panel will follow on the same day from 2:45 to 3:45pm in Hall H.

If you happen to be attending SDCC 2024 and hear moaning, it’s most likely not someone grumbling about the merchandise prices, but rather coming from Hall H during the Walking Dead panel. The two consecutive events will reveal new information about The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon—The Book of Carol (rumored to include a trailer) and Dead City Season 2. It wouldn’t be unexpected to also receive an update on the return of Negan to our screens.

Marvel Cinematic Universe and Marvel

Panel Schedule: The panel will take place on Saturday, July 27 from 6:00pm to 7:00pm PT in Hall H.

Marvel Studios is set to make a grand comeback to Hall H on July 27, and the internet is abuzz with speculation about what could possibly be revealed. While some less exciting rumors hint at details about Marvel’s Phase 6 strategies and the Fantastic Four being shared during the panel, let’s be real, you’re not here for the practical predictions, are you?

Yes, you’re here because you’re interested in hearing about some of the more outrageous rumors. Don’t worry, we always make sure to give you the inside scoop (just a friendly reminder: none of this has been officially confirmed, so take it all with a grain of salt the size of Giant-Man).

New Marvel Movies

Chris Hemsworth in Thor: Love and Thunder
Marvel

According to reports, Marvel is set to unveil a slew of new films at their panel. Among the potential titles being discussed are Thor 5, Doctor Strange 3, Shang-Chi 2, Midnight Sons, and an X-Men movie.

It appears that much of this is merely wishful thinking, particularly the reveal of the X-Men. However, it would not come as a surprise to us if we were to receive updates on the future plans for Thor, Doctor Strange, and Shang-Chi at the panel.

Avengers Assemble!

It is expected that the panel will reveal the director and writer for Avengers 5 and Secret Wars. There have been rumors that the Russo Bros, much to our deputy editor’s disappointment, will be returning to lead the next major team-up in the MCU. However, Kevin Feige has denied these speculations. Given the significance of these two films for Marvel’s future, it is highly probable that the studio will announce the filmmaker who will be assembling the next Avengers.

The Scarlet Witch is back!

Contrary to rumors, she is not. I understand there may have been speculation, but the truth is she is not. My condolences for your loss.

Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman are back… again!

Deadpool and Wolverine
Marvel Studios

To commemorate the release of Deadpool and Wolverine in theaters on Thursday during the Con, Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman made an appearance to promote their film (instead of their usual promotion of gin and coffee). According to speculation, Marvel may announce that both actors are not finished with the MCU and will reprise their roles in either Avengers 5 or Secret Wars (or possibly both).

To be frank, the likelihood of this happening is quite high. Feige has been eager to have Jackman join the MCU for a while now, so it’s unlikely they would let him go after just one appearance in the iconic yellow suit. And as for Reynolds? He is essentially synonymous with Deadpool, and I believe they would have to pay him not to make any appearances in Phase 6 and beyond.

Marvel Animation

Additionally, there have been rumors circulating that Marvel will be revealing their first animated film. While this may seem plausible, I must caution against getting too excited as there is no solid evidence to support this claim.

Over the past few years, there have been accusations that Marvel has overextended itself, similar to Uatau’s thinning hairline. While it’s possible that Marvel may want to venture into animated movies, I don’t believe they will take on a major new project while the studio is still recovering from a difficult period. Of course, I could be mistaken, but I highly doubt it.

DCU

Despite not attending SDCC 2024, DC and Warner Bros are still heavily involved in the production of James Gunn’s upcoming Superman movie. It is anticipated that both Gunn and the DCU team will return to the convention next year with a stronger presence, as they will have more material to showcase. Therefore, although they are not physically present, DC still maintains a strong presence at the con.

There are several panels planned for upcoming shows such as My Adventures with Superman, Batman: Caped Crusader, and most notably, The Penguin. While we don’t anticipate any major announcements, there is a chance we may receive a teaser or two during the event. There has been speculation online about The Batman 2 possibly announcing shooting dates, but I personally don’t believe that will be the case.

Panel start time: 6:45pm (Indigo Ballroom)

As the Marvel event draws to a close, the anticipation for what’s to come in the From panel is growing. While we can’t say for certain what will be revealed, many speculate that the long-awaited release date for From Season 3 will finally be announced. Who knows, we may even be treated to another trailer?

Additionally, we have a guide that breaks down all of the latest movies that will be releasing in theaters this month.
