Possible Foreshadowing of Yuji’s Domain Expansion in the First Jujutsu Kaisen Anime Opening

Possible Foreshadowing of Yuji’s Domain Expansion in the First Jujutsu Kaisen Anime Opening

Despite the scheduled release date for Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 264 being July 29, 2024, spoilers have already been leaked, revealing that Itadori Yuji has finally achieved his domain expansion. In his fight against Ryomen Sukuna, Yuji unleashed his domain expansion, resembling a train station.

In addition, the fan community also noticed a resemblance between the protagonist’s domain expansion and the first opening theme of the anime adaptation. While some fans view this as a mere coincidence, it may be worth reconsidering as the author was actively involved in the production of the first season. This could potentially explain why the opening sequence features Itadori sitting inside a train, as it may have been a direct request from the author.

Note: The following article contains spoilers from chapter 264.

The spoilers for chapter 264 of Jujutsu Kaisen began with Ryomen Sukuna avoiding Hana Kurusu’s attack and attempting to finish her off. Luckily, Aoi arrived just in time to save her, and Itadori Yuji joined the battle.

Despite the sorcerer’s efforts to injure the antagonist by smashing him into a building, Sukuna had regained his reverse-cursed technique (RCT) after two consecutive Black Flash techniques. As a result, hitting him did little to cause any significant damage.

Despite his previous underestimation of Yuji, the King of Curses once again doubted his abilities, convinced that his dismantling technique could only affect the soul barrier of a body and not the physical body.

The antagonist was taken aback as Itadori performed the same hand seal as Sukuna and initiated a domain expansion. In the blink of an eye, the antagonist was transported to a bustling train station, with the protagonist closing in for a showdown within the domain.

While there was limited information revealed about Yuji’s domain expansion, it was disclosed that it is set in a train station, similar to Ryomen Sukuna’s Malevolent Shrine being situated in a shrine. What makes Yuji’s domain expansion intriguing is that it may have already been hinted at in the first season of the anime adaptation.

The first season of Jujutsu Kaisen premiered on October 2, 2020, featuring its opening theme song “Kaikaikitan”by Eve. The opening sequence was set in a train station, with the main character, Itadori, sitting on a train submerged in water. In his reflection, he saw Ryomen Sukuna, as he had become the vessel for the powerful sorcerer.

Just like the opening song, Yuji’s real domain expansion occurred within a train station, as shown in the latest spoilers for chapter 264 of Jujutsu Kaisen. Therefore, the first season of the anime may have already hinted at his domain expansion.

Gege Akutami’s Role in the Anime Industry

Despite the busy schedule of the manga series, Gege Akutami was still involved in the anime project, as revealed by one of the producers at an Animedia event interview for Toho Animation.

The author created the storyboard for the anime and also provided his input to ensure that the anime adaptation of his masterpiece would be as exceptional as possible. Therefore, the train scene featured in the opening song could potentially be a subtle hint from the author foreshadowing the future event where Itadori unveils his domain expansion.
