Possible new Alien vs Predator movie from Romulus & Prey directors

The director of Alien: Romulus is pushing for a new Alien vs Predator movie, which would potentially bring back the “ugliest motherf**kers”from the series for another showdown.

In 2004, following the throne room tease in Predator 2, various media tie-ins such as comic books and video games, the long-awaited showdown between the Xenomorph from Alien and the Yautja finally took place on the big screen. While it earned $177 million worldwide, the film was met with mixed reviews and was not well-received by fans.

The spinoff series continued with AVP: Requiem, another sequel set on Earth that further diminished the terrifying nature of the sci-fi monsters by portraying them as mere slasher villains battling in the shadows. This installment was widely criticized and ultimately resulted in the abandonment of any future projects involving the two creatures.

More than 15 years have passed since then. Recently, the highly successful release of Alien: Romulus has sparked a brilliant idea in director Fede Álvarez’s mind – he proposes co-directing an Alien vs Predator movie with Dan Trachtenberg, known for his work on 2022’s Prey.

When asked about the possibility of another Alien vs Predator film, he responded (as reported by Deadline) that perhaps it would need to be co-directed with his friend Dan.

“Perhaps we could take inspiration from Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez’s approach in Dusk Till Dawn. We can each direct a half, depending on the success of this project and if there is interest from audiences.”

It is evident that there is a desire among people to see such a movie. According to a Redditor, the release of an AvP movie with the same level of quality as these two films would generate immense excitement and anticipation. This statement was made in response to filmmaker Fede Alvarez’s teasing of a potential Alien and Predator crossover film.

“One commenter expressed their desire for a well-made AVP movie, stating their belief in its potential. Another commenter shared their trust in the director’s ability to please fans and accurately align the movie with the timeline of the games. They predicted it would be a 7/10 film, but still a considerable improvement from the previous installments.”

Trachtenberg is currently working on a new installment in the Predator franchise titled Badlands, which will feature Elle Fanning in the lead role. While details about the project are scarce, it is speculated to take place in the future.
