Possible Return of MCU Character Revealed by Marvel

Marvel is intensifying their celebration of their 85th anniversary, but did they take advantage of the occasion to hint at the comeback of Peggy Carter?

To celebrate its 85th anniversary, Marvel published a brief video montage that heavily features the MCU. The footage includes scenes from all the movies released since the debut of Iron Man in 2008.

The trailer’s final moments have received the most buzz, as they provided fans with the first official glimpses at Thunderbolts*, Daredevil: Born Again, and Harrison Ford’s Red Hulk. Additionally, the trailer may have hinted at the unexpected return of Peggy Carter.

Haley Atwell’s portrayal of Carter in the two seasons of Agent Carter, which concluded in 2016, is easily recognizable in her iconic blue coat and red hat.

Although her appearance was brief, the fact that she was included in a segment titled “And we’re just getting started,”alongside Shuri and Professor X, strongly suggests that Carter may make a reappearance in the near future.

If she were to return, there would be numerous opportunities for her to do so. However, in the original timeline, Carter had passed away from old age during the events of Captain America: The Winter Soldier. This was later changed in Avengers: Endgame, where it was revealed that she had actually lived out her life with Steve Rogers.

Atwell has also returned as two other versions of Carter, both of whom possess the Super Soldier abilities. Her first appearance as Captain Carter was in the Disney+ series What If…?, where she became a Super Soldier after Steve Rogers was unable to undergo the experiment.

Atwell played a variant of her character in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, reprising her role in live-action, but it was a different version from the one seen in What If…?

Despite whichever iteration it may be, there are numerous chances for Carter to make a comeback in the MCU. Upcoming MCU films are probable to heavily feature the Multiverse, based on our current knowledge of The Fantastic Four: First Steps and Avengers: Doomsday.

Captain America: Brave New World will mark the return of the MCU in February.
