A puzzling controller vibration that imitates a heartbeat has been causing frustration among Elden Ring players. Nevertheless, a sharp-eyed fan has asserted that they have finally discovered the origin of the pulsation.
If you’ve experienced your controller vibrating unexpectedly while exploring the map in Shadow of the Erdtree, rest assured, it’s not your imagination. A player on X/Twitter has shared a post providing an explanation for this mystery.
While exploring Shadow of the Erdtree, me and many others have noticed the controller will sometimes randomly(?) vibrate in a kind of “heartbeat”pulse. No one seems to have figured out what it means yet.

The enigmatic vibrations in Shadow of the Erdtree have caused frustration among Elden Ring players, leaving them wondering if it is a hidden quest, a technical issue, or simply the challenging new DLC pushing their controllers to the limit.
“One player shared, “I initially thought I was going crazy. I restarted the game before reaching Mohg, but I am still experiencing audible heartbeats in Limgrave and Liurnia.”
“Another person chimed in, exclaiming, “Did that come from the game? I honestly believed my controller was malfunctioning.”
After experiencing vibrations while playing the DLC, some players have speculated that this issue may only occur with the PlayStation 5 DualSense controller. They questioned if there could be a possible unintentional trigger for the haptic feedback.
The source can be seen as either disappointing or relieving, depending on one’s perspective, as it could simply be an attack from a nearby enemy. According to a player, the Bloodfiends, which are large enemies similar to Omens, can be encountered early on in some settlements in Shadow of the Erdtree and have an attack that causes controllers to vibrate.
According to a response on Twitter, the Bloodfiends are known to perform a charge where they scrape their weapons against the ground. This move is most likely to be felt by anyone in range if the initial group fighting near the southern area of Castle Ensis is spawned in.
Oh, I figured this out in my playthrough because it drove me nuts. The Bloodfiends do this charge where they drag their weapon across the ground. It seems if the ones fighting in the first area (South of Castle Ensis) are spawned in and fighting you’ll feel it if youre in range.

Despite lacking in excitement, the alternative of silently following the intensity of the heartbeat vibration until discovering its source could make this reveal less exhilarating.
“One player offered an alternative explanation, proposing that the vibration effect may be either a glitch or intentionally designed to occur when the player is in close proximity to the target. This is not an uncommon occurrence, as previous instances of unexpected effects have been identified and fixed in the past.”
The massive DLC known as “Elden Ring 2″has been released for PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5, under the title of Shadow of the Erdtree.
