After the PSN controversy, the director of Helldivers 2 has suggested that a new cape inspired by the game’s critical Steam reviews may be made available to players.
Despite Helldivers 2 players successfully pressuring Sony to backtrack on their controversial decision to mandate a PSN account for Steam users, it appears that one aspect of this ordeal may become an official and lasting aspect of the game.
Not long after Arrowhead CEO and Helldivers 2 creative director Johan Pilestedt tweeted a fan-made “accidental cape design”based on the numerous negative Steam reviews that the game received after Sony’s announcement, he praised it as “really cool.”

Based on the ratio of positive to negative reviews in the days following Sony and Arrowhead’s initial announcement, the design was inspired by a graph found on Helldivers 2’s Steam page.
Pilestedt not only expressed approval for the design, but also suggested that it could be incorporated into the game. When a player requested for the cape design to be added, the director responded by saying, “The team is currently discussing potential names for it.”In a playful manner, he also joked in response to a fan’s question about whether it would be free, stating, “It’ll definitely be $999.99.”
Although Pilestedt did not disclose any specific names that the team is considering, fans have proposed strong contenders such as “Mistakes Were Made,””The Will of Democracy,”and “The People’s Voice.”
Despite the lasting impact of the PSN controversy on Helldivers 2, the negative reviews on Steam may not remain as such. Numerous players are urging others to revise their negative reviews after Sony’s reveal of a project known as “Major Order: Operation Clean Up,”which has received widespread support from the community. Currently, Helldivers 2 has Mixed reviews on Steam, a significant improvement from the Overwhelming Negative reviews it received over the weekend.
