Potential Shortcomings of Kaguya-sama: Love is War Season 4 That Fans Might Overlook

Since the release of the third season and the sequel film in 2023, fans have been eagerly awaiting the launch of Kaguya-sama: Love is War season 4. While the film concluded on a heartwarming note, the narrative isn’t finished, and viewers are excited to see what the next season holds.

However, there are concerns that the upcoming season may not achieve the same level of success as its predecessors. This skepticism stems from the trajectory of the manga, which appears to have reached a critical point. If A-1 Pictures decides to continue with additional seasons, there’s a possibility that the anime’s fanfare might diminish.

Warning: Spoilers for Kaguya-sama: Love is War are included in this article.

The anime Kaguya-sama: Love is War has established itself as a favorite among viewers, with each season receiving positive feedback. The story primarily revolves around Kaguya Shinomiya and Miyuki Shirogane, who serve as the Student Council President and Vice-President at Shuuichi High School. Both characters harbor feelings for each other but are reluctant to confess first.

This teasing rivalry was expanded over three seasons, culminating in a notable moment at the end of season three when Miyuki confessed his love for Kaguya during the Cultural Festival. Kaguya responded with a kiss, signaling a significant turning point in their relationship.

In the subsequent movie, the focus shifted to the intricacies of their newfound romance, particularly exploring their first kiss. Kaguya inadvertently offered Miyuki what she viewed as a “mature kiss,”which was something intended for later in their relationship. The film showcased the difficulties they faced in communicating about their bond, ultimately concluding with the two characters together by Christmas.

Given that the central plot—Kaguya and Miyuki’s confession—has reached its climax, it stands to reason that Kaguya-sama: Love is War season 4 might not capture audiences in the same way its previous seasons did. The manga appears to be beyond its most captivating chapters in terms of potential adaptation, leading to speculation that A-1 Pictures may reconsider the production of season 4.

Nonetheless, the movie hinted at future developments that could be explored in the series, including the evolving relationship between Ishigami Yu and Miko Iino, as well as Kaguya considering a transfer to Stanford to pursue studies alongside Miyuki after graduation.

This possibility suggests that A-1 Pictures may still be inclined to adapt the entire storyline. Unfortunately, there have been no announcements regarding the production of Kaguya-sama: Love is War season 4 yet.

While many fans are hopeful that A-1 Pictures will continue to adapt the series after their work on titles such as 86: Eighty-Six, Mashle: Magic and Muscles, and Solo Leveling, the studio has not indicated anything of the sort. This means that an announcement regarding a new season may still be far off.

As it stands, with many of the future arcs lacking the strength of earlier ones, the studio might opt to delay the development of Kaguya-sama: Love is War season 4 until they find it compelling enough. Fans can only hope that the adaptation process remains on track and does not end up being postponed or canceled altogether.
