Despite the world being preoccupied with their own anime series, the Dragon Ball fans have resurfaced following the peak of the Super series, clamoring for a sequel or another canon anime installment.

Fans are becoming increasingly vocal as Toei Animation continues to focus solely on One Piece and older works by Akira Toriyama, neglecting to promote any recent projects related to the Dragon Ball series. They are demanding answers from the animation studio and expressing their frustration with the lack of attention given to the Dragon Ball franchise.

The animation studio recently shared a post on the internet commemorating a pivotal moment from Akira Toriyama’s highly acclaimed series. While the rest of the world rejoiced in this celebration, devoted fans of the series expressed their disappointment and urged the studio to focus on promoting its upcoming projects, including the Daima series that was announced last year. Additionally, avid fans of the anime also called for a sequel to the Super series.

Fans Disappointed with Toei’s Promotion of Old Dragon Ball Content over Latest Daima Series

On May 30, 2024, Toei Animation shared several images from an episode of Dragon Ball Z featuring Goten and Trunks attempting to fuse for the first time using the Fusion Dance during the Majin Buu Saga.

Regrettably, the initial attempts were unsuccessful as their fusion produced either an overweight or malfunctioning being. However, they persisted and corrected their mistakes in the dance, leading to a successful fusion and the emergence of Gotenks, in line with the post’s description.

“Practice makes perfect.”

Unfortunately, the dedicated fans of the series were not pleased with this homage as they were hoping for the series to showcase upcoming projects, such as the highly anticipated Daima series. This series, which is based on a popular manga of the same name, was officially announced in October 2023.

This project was the final one that Akira Toriyama completed before his passing. It tells an original story in which Goku and his companions are mysteriously reduced in size. While the series is scheduled to premiere in Fall 2024, an exact release date has not yet been revealed.

Fan reactions to Toei’s lack of promotion for the Daima series

The fans were unable to conceal their disappointment and began to mock the animation studio for its lack of promotion for the highly anticipated Daima series. Additionally, many fans expressed their desire for the studio to also promote a sequel to the popular Super series, further adding to their disappointment.

On the contrary, there were also fans who simply relished the moment and applauded the Z series for its status as one of the greatest anime of all time. While a few fans hailed the fusion dance of Goten and Trunks as one of the standout moments from the series, others were caught off guard by the scene and shared their personal reactions to the animation studio’s portrayal.

Additional thoughts

Recently, One Piece revealed plans to broadcast certain episodes on the world’s biggest screen. This caused frustration among Dragon Ball fans, who pointed fingers at Toei Animation, the shared studio for both series, for their ongoing issues.

Despite the disappointment of not receiving an announcement for the Super sequel, there may be a valid explanation that fans are unaware of. In times like these, it is best to remain composed and appreciate the ongoing projects that have already been adapted into anime.
