Less than a week elapsed before Call of Duty League professionals decided to ban both the Model L and the XMG, yet players continue to utilize these dominant assault rifles in regular Multiplayer matches.
Our analysis places the XM4 at the top of the AR rankings in Black Ops 6 due to its exceptional fire rate and outstanding damage output. Although it may not take down enemies as swiftly as the AK-74 or AS VAL, the XM4 boasts a recoil pattern that is much simpler to manage.
Interestingly, the Model L’s stats might not suggest its lethal efficiency. It is situated in the middle tier concerning time-to-kill, ranks last for firing rate and bullet velocity, and is placed second to last in aiming speed.
However, these figures are misleading, as the Model L exhibits remarkable accuracy in medium to long-range combat, maintaining an impressive 300-millisecond time-to-kill up to a range of 51 meters. Skilled users can dispatch foes with just three shots from practically any distance.
In response to its effectiveness, CDL professionals have banned both assault rifles, with Ben Nissim offering some insight into the rationale behind this ruling.

“Clearly, the Model L is overpowered, leading to its ban. The concern with the XM4 is that no one wants to see an M4-centric meta, compounded by its high performance and prevalence throughout matches.”
This follows the M4’s prohibition in MW3 after it completely overshadowed competitors during the initial weekend of gameplay. Likewise, many CDL competitors opted for the XM4 in Zooma’s $25,000 tournament last weekend, where SMG players struggled significantly against the assault rifles.
Nissim noted that professional gamers are currently experimenting with various assault rifles, such as the AMES 85 and GPR 91, in hopes of achieving a better equilibrium between SMGs and ARs.
Luckily for casual players, they do not face the same limitations as the professionals.
Competitive enthusiasts should still prepare to explore different assault rifles, as it’s likely that the XM4 and Model L will not be featured in Ranked Play upon its Season 1 debut.
