A post titled “My movie Victory, created during my second year of battling cancer, has been released” was shared in a breast cancer patient community on August 16th. The post’s author, Ms. A, disclosed, “As a stage 3 breast cancer patient, I am currently in my third year of fighting the disease. I am also a film producer, and this particular film was planned and filmed during my battle with cancer. It was finally released on August 14th, a few days ago.”
During the filming, aside from those who were already aware of my condition, the majority of the actors and crew were unaware that I was battling breast cancer.
Ms. A revealed, “During my struggle with chemotherapy, thoughts of leaving the film industry I had dedicated over 20 years to crossed my mind. However, I soon realized that my true passion lies in this profession and that would make me the happiest. Despite my illness, I continued to show up on set, which felt more comforting than being confined to my bed.”
Ms. A shared her intense love for Victory, stating, “Out of all the movies I have created, this one transformed my challenging struggles into something optimistic, and I wanted to encourage myself. I genuinely believe that this film will serve as a source of empowerment for others enduring similar situations as mine.”
Ultimately, Ms. A expressed, “This movie has many emotional moments, and I was concerned that my family might struggle if I cried. So, I refrained from shedding tears and instead used the movie as an opportunity to openly release my emotions. I stand by myself, as well as all those battling the same illness as me, their families, and those supporting them in their journey. Today marks a triumph for me, and I am thankful for it.”
Released on the 14th, Victory follows the story of the “Millennium Girls,”a new cheerleading club bursting with enthusiasm, as they cheer on themselves and others. Singer and actress Hye-ri takes on the role of Pil-seon, bringing a vibrant and youthful energy to the theater.
Despite being equally passionate about Victory as producer Ms. A, Hye-ri actively promoted the film on SBS PowerFM’s 2 O’Clock Escape Cultwo Show on the 20th. During the show, she tearfully expressed, “It’s the first time a movie has moved me to tears. It saddens me that many people are unaware of this film that I’ve poured my heart and soul into. I feel a great sense of responsibility for it.”She went on to say,
I believe you will ultimately pick the film because of me, but I am concerned that you may struggle with the decision. That is why I reassure you, saying, “It’s alright, have faith in me, give it a chance.”
Furthermore, Hye-ri is actively promoting the film on her Instagram account. She frequently shares posts from viewers who have reviewed the movie as well as regularly posting behind-the-scenes photos to showcase her love for the project.
On the 20th, 7 days after its release, Victory remained in 5th place at the box office with a total audience of 222,246.
