Protect Your PC Saves in Elden Ring from Cheaters: Backup Guide for Steam

Elden Ring cheaters are causing significant issues for players on PC, leading to frustrating situations where bosses become inaccessible. Here’s what you need to know and how to back up your Elden Ring save file on Steam before it’s too late.

Posting on the official Elden Ring Reddit page, FromSoftware fans have alerted the community about a group of cheaters targeting new players. According to the discussion, these cheaters invade the games of newcomers, pretending to assist them in overcoming bosses.

This “help” can be enticing for many players, especially those struggling with challenging encounters. However, one user detailed how accepting assistance from invaders could ultimately lead to losing their entire save file.

Elden Ring Cheaters Are Damaging Saves

“Right before entering the Fire Giant boss area with a summoned cooperator, a player was invaded,” the post recounted. “Instead of being expelled, the invader teleported to me, labeled as a ‘Host of Fingers’ and began aiding in the boss fight, appearing wherever I went and being generally supportive.”

Unfortunately, the player soon discovered the invader’s real objective was not to assist them. The cheater left their world and reentered in the Consecrated Catacombs, triggering boss fights against Maliketh and Dragonlord. The cheater defeated both bosses instantly and then transported the unwitting player to the Ashen Capital.

Elden Ring cheaters are compromising new player saves.

They continued, “Since then, bosses have been defeated that I cannot access yet and I have early remembrances along with their drops. Many areas are now cleared that I never completed.”

Essentially, the cheater stripped the target of the satisfaction that comes with defeating bosses in the game while also voiding their co-op save file since they can no longer summon their friends. To compound the issue, several other players on Steam have reported similar negative experiences.

While playing offline can completely eliminate invaders, it isn’t an ideal solution for players wanting to engage in co-op or PvP. Fortunately, there is a way to safeguard your save file against these cheaters.
