Protest Trucks Call for ENHYPEN’s Jungwon to Step Down After Dating Controversy

Protests Erupt Against ENHYPEN’s Jungwon Amid Controversies

On December 17, a coalition of Chinese anti-fans and solo supporters of ENHYPEN gathered over 5,000 CNY to commission a protest truck demanding the removal of Jungwon from the popular K-pop group. This initiative also involves placing wreaths outside the HYBE building, serving as a poignant symbolic act. Despite efforts from Jungwon’s dedicated Chinese fans to thwart this initial protest, the group’s determination led to the organization of a second truck through intermediaries.

Protest Truck Appears at KBS Studios

Two days later, on December 19, a protest truck made its presence known at KBS studios during ENHYPEN’s pre-recording for the Gayo Daejun event. The vehicle showcased various messages that targeted Jungwon regarding recent controversies, particularly dating rumors involving aespa’s Winter, which both parties have denied.

Messages of Discontent

Among the provocative messages displayed was a sign asserting, “Legendarily filial idol. Yang Jungwon’s double life also has no doubt.” This provocation hints at the intense scrutiny Jungwon faces from a segment of the fanbase.

Another sign urged Jungwon to withdraw from ENHYPEN, stating, “Provoking fans by dating, smoking, then lying. Yang Jungwon, leave the group. You can debut again in a hookah bar.” Such statements also alluded to claims regarding an alleged visit by Jungwon to a venue that purportedly functions both as a bar and a hookah establishment.

A Growing Hostility Campaign

This protest is a reflection of a broader antagonistic trend observed among certain anti-fans. Reports indicate they have been spreading misinformation, embellishing existing narratives with fake details, and engaging in harmful online discourse aimed at inciting public outrage against Jungwon. They have formed dedicated groups that target him using damaging language, severely affecting his reputation and emotional health.

Despite the denials from both HYBE and Jungwon regarding the dating allegations, these harmful actions persist, illustrating the challenges that public figures often face in navigating fan dynamics.

Agency’s Legal Response

In light of the ongoing harassment, Belift Lab, Jungwon’s agency, has initiated legal proceedings to address and combat these malicious campaigns.
