The unveiling of PlayStation’s 30th Anniversary hardware has caused a frenzy among price gougers, with some already attempting to sell the limited PS5 Pro bundle for as much as $10,000 just for a chance to secure one.
To commemorate 30 years of PlayStation, Sony is producing a selection of unique hardware inspired by the original PS1 design. This includes the newly revealed PS5 Pro, DualSense and DualSense Edge controllers, the PlayStation Portal, and a variety of accessories, all designed to reflect the classic color scheme of the original console.
Emphasizing the iconic grey color, the PlayStation logo has returned to its original colors, and the face buttons on the controllers pay homage to their classic designs, hitting all the right nostalgic notes for longtime fans. Despite some initial criticism regarding the PS5 Pro’s pricing, many have shifted their perspectives thanks to this new nostalgic presentation.
The hype is unprecedented as preorders are set to go live on September 26. Even before the preorder launch, some scalpers are looking to cash in, asking for astronomical amounts just to “attempt”to secure this hardware for an eager fan.
Although the exact number of controllers or PlayStation Portals in production remains unknown, we do know that only 12,300 units of the PS5 Pro console will be produced in this special design. Considering there are already over 60 million PS5 units sold, the limited availability of this variant makes it a rare find.
To complicate matters further, the PS5 Pro is only available as part of a much larger bundle. There’s no standalone version like the regular PS5; instead, fans must purchase the PS5 Pro Console – 30th Anniversary Limited Edition Bundle.
This hefty bundle includes the console, a DualSense controller, a DualSense Edge controller, a DualSense Charging Station, a console cover for a Disc Drive (which must be purchased separately), a vertical stand, cable ties, a sticker, a poster, a paperclip, and a cable connector styled like the original PlayStation controller. Got all that?
The 30th-anniversary bundle is limited to just 12,300 units worldwide.
The exact pricing for this exclusive bundle is still awaited, but it’s expected to be significant given the high value of the included items. Collectively, the MSRP of the standard versions of these items surpasses $1,000, excluding the additional exclusive features.
With only days left until the limited bundle becomes available, some have already exploited the situation by inflating prices to well above what Sony might charge.

One eBay seller attempted to get ahead of the trend by listing an auction for $9,999.00 for an “attempt to buy” the PS5 Pro bundle, without guaranteeing the actual console. This listing was subsequently removed by eBay as it violated their User Agreement policies.
This is just the beginning of an exciting yet tumultuous week for PlayStation fans. The 30th anniversary hardware will officially launch on September 26, coinciding with the opening of pre-orders for the PS5 Pro.
Be prepared for an influx of scalpers looking to resell these limited items at inflated prices on third-party marketplaces immediately after the release.
