The PlayStation 5 Pro 30th Anniversary Collection has become a prime target for resellers, with some bundles currently being sold at up to five times their original retail price.
In celebration of its gaming brand’s milestone anniversary, Sony has launched a line of hardware that emulates the nostalgic design of the classic PlayStation 1. This includes both controllers (the high-end DualSense Edge and the standard DualSense), the PlayStation Portal Remote Player, and, of course, the PlayStation 5 consoles.
Preorders for the PlayStation 5 Pro bundle kicked off on September 26 and, as expected, sold out almost instantly. Many of these preordered units have ended up in the hands of resellers, who are already profiting significantly from the resale market.
The PS5 Pro bundle itself is not inexpensive, retailing at $999.99. This bundle includes the console, a DualSense controller, a DualSense Edge, a controller charging station, a stand, and additional accessories. This is $300 more than the console sold separately, which itself has already drawn criticism for its hefty price of $699.99.
However, reseller prices make this seem like a bargain.
Even before preorders were live, listings on eBay were asking for as much as $10,000 for a PS5 Anniversary Bundle. Now, preordered consoles are selling for as high as $5,200, with numerous sold listings hovering around $4,000.
The skyrocketing prices are not surprising given that Sony is only producing 12,300 units in total—a figure that pays homage to the PS1’s original release date on December 3, 1994.
Moreover, other items in the anniversary collection (which are expected to be more widely available) have also seen significant price inflation on the resale market.
Preorders for both the DualSense Edge and the PlayStation Portal—typically priced at $199.99 and $219.99 for the anniversary versions—are currently being listed for multiple times their retail values.
The premium controller is selling on eBay for around $400-500, with some listings reaching as high as $999.99. Meanwhile, the Remote Player is faring slightly better but still commands prices between $350 and $599.99.
Additionally, the PS5 Digital Edition 30th Anniversary bundle is also being sold for significantly more than its retail price. This limited edition console, priced like the standard PS5 Slim at $499.99, is currently selling for as much as $2,000 on eBay.
While the PS5 Pro bundle is exclusively available through PlayStation’s official online store, some items can be preordered via selected retailers. Preorders for the DualSense are available now, while preorders for the PS5 Digital bundle will commence on October 10.
