In the first episode of Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin, we see Sakuna standing in a rice field, lost in memories of her parents. However, her drunken state causes her to have a vivid dream about them. Later, she learns that the Bridge of Heaven, the link between the mortal world and the realm of gods, has appeared and some humans have already crossed it.

Suddenly, Sakuna is standing on the bridge, facing a group of humans who had crossed over. With a quick move, she kicks one of them off the bridge and warns the rest to retreat and not continue crossing.

In a later scene, Lady Kamuhitsuki, the head goddess, arrives to meet with Sakuna and the other gods. She bestows upon Sakuna the responsibility of overseeing the yearly duties, causing the other gods to feel envious. It is revealed that the other gods view Sakuna with some disdain because she does not have to work as hard as they do to cultivate rice for offerings. Instead, Sakuna receives pre-cultivated rice from her absent parents, making the task of fulfilling duties much easier for her.

After the humans she had previously encountered caused an accident, all of Sakuna’s rice is burnt. As a result, she is banished to the land of the demons to cultivate it.

Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin – Episode 2: What to Expect?

Episode 2 is set to be a chaotic episode, as it follows Sakuna and the humans as they finally arrive at the land of the demons. This marks the beginning of Sakuna’s journey to becoming a revered goddess. The high production quality of episode 1 has heightened fans’ expectations, especially considering P.A. Works’ past work on Buddy Daddies and Charlotte.
