The upcoming My Hero Academia movie poses a new challenge for Kenta Miyake, the long-standing voice actor for All Might. Due to his dual roles, the entire experience proved to be quite difficult for him.
In the latest installment of My Hero Academia, Deku and his classmates must confront a terrifying adversary – a malevolent version of All Might.
Kenta Miyake’s portrayal of both roles adds an authentic touch to Dark Might’s character, reminiscent of the franchise’s Superman. During our interview at Anime Expo 2024, Miyake shared that taking on both parts presented its own challenges for playing All Might, but not in the way one would expect.
He notes the contrast in volume between the two characters, which was clearly challenging to overcome. This can be particularly difficult in voice-acting, where transitioning between roles can be a struggle.
Despite not possessing the same level of physicality as on-screen actors, performers still need to have a deep understanding of their characters’ psychology. This was evident in Kenta’s role in You’re Next, where he had to quickly adapt his mindset to fit the demands of the voice acting industry. The fast-paced nature of voice roles requires a rapid turnaround, and Kenta was able to successfully switch his mindset to deliver a convincing performance.
Christopher Sabat is skilled in the art of dubbing. Despite his extensive experience, he is bound to encounter challenges during the process, much like his Japanese counterpart.
