Yuji’s Role in Jujutsu Kaisen

Yuji’s Role in Jujutsu Kaisen

Despite being the protagonist of Jujutsu Kaisen, Yuji Itadori has faced criticism for not having a significant role in the story. However, during a recent exhibition of the series, author Gege Akutami disclosed that Itadori was not the original main character. While some may assume that Yuta Okkotsu or Satoru Gojo were intended to take on this role, it was actually Megumi Fushiguro who was initially planned to be the lead character.

At Anime Expo 2024 in Tokyo, Japan, the author revealed several details about Jujutsu Kaisen, including the initial plan to have Megumi as the protagonist. This possibility adds an intriguing layer to the story, highlighting how different it could have been. The author’s revelation also sheds light on how this decision influenced certain aspects of both Megumi and Yuji’s narratives.

Megumi Fushiguro: The Original Protagonist of Jujutsu Kaisen, Not Yuji

At the 2024 Anime Expo in Tokyo, Japan, Gege Akutami, the author of Jujutsu Kaisen, shared details about the series’ creation. Among them was the fact that Megumi Fushiguro was initially planned to be the main protagonist instead of Yuji Itadori. Additionally, Megumi’s sister Tsumiki was originally intended to appear in the first chapter of the manga, while Yuji was meant to be a supporting character with a minor tie to Ryomen Sukuna.

This insight may have struck a chord with numerous fans who believe that Yuji, being the main character of Jujutsu Kaisen, has faced significant challenges in gaining relevance and often does not receive enough attention. It should be noted that Yuji is generally well-received by fans, but they are disappointed by the limited focus he receives in many parts of the manga.

Gege’s revelation helps to clarify the many connections Megumi has to the main plot points of the series. Being a member of the Zen’in clan, being raised and trained by Satoru Gojo, and being the son of Toji Fushiguro, who played a major role in shaping events in the story, all contribute to Megumi’s significance. Additionally, Sukuna’s interest in Megumi’s Shikigami abilities, as well as his determination to save his sister Tsumiki, further solidify his role as a central character deserving of a protagonist status.

It is intriguing that Megumi Fushiguro was intended to be the protagonist of Jujutsu Kaisen, as this perspective sheds light on his role in the story. Despite Megumi’s importance to the plot, there are some fans who view him as a disappointment, believing that he fell short in terms of narrative development.

Despite being the protagonist of Jujutsu Kaisen, Yuji Itadori is expected to remain a central part of the story until its conclusion. However, some fans have expressed disappointment in Megumi’s role, feeling that Gege Akutami’s writing has failed to properly address important plot points such as his relationship with his sister and his father, Toji Fushiguro.
