Apple has officially unveiled an intriguing new accessory: the iPhone Pocket, a stylish yet minimalist $229 “piece of cloth” developed in partnership with the renowned Japanese fashion label, Issey Miyake.

This sleek pouch is engineered from a single piece of 3D knitted fabric that Apple describes as being inspired by the idea of a simple cloth. Manufactured in Japan, the iPhone Pocket is designed to accommodate any iPhone model comfortably, along with a few additional small essentials when needed.

The iPhone Pocket is offered in two distinct styles: a short strap priced at $149 and a cross-body version that retails for $229. Customers can choose from a vibrant palette, featuring hues such as lemon, peacock, cinnamon, and purple. Notably, the pouch allows for a subtle glimpse of what’s inside, letting users check their phone screen without needing to fully remove it from the bag.

Launch Details for the iPhone Pocket

Set to launch on November 14, this limited edition accessory will be available for purchase both online and at select Apple Store locations worldwide, including the US, UK, Japan, France, Italy, China, Singapore, and South Korea.

The design of the iPhone Pocket draws from Issey Miyake’s innovative A POC (“A Piece of Cloth”) philosophy, which focuses on single-thread minimalism and adaptable fashion. This connection to the Miyake legacy is a significant aspect of the accessory’s appeal.

For those who have long followed Apple’s journey, the concept of the iPhone Pocket may evoke nostalgia. In 2004, Apple launched the iconic iPod Socks, which featured a colorful pack of six fabric sleeves priced at $29 (approximately $48 today when adjusted for inflation).Fast forward two decades, and Apple returns with yet another fabric accessory for smartphones, albeit with a significantly higher price point.

The iPhone Pocket could very well be regarded as the most extravagant pocket accessory to date. It stands as a testament to Apple’s unique ability to transform something as unassuming as a knitted pouch into a symbol of status and luxury, especially during the holiday season.
