Baldur’s Gate 3 Players Share Warning About Underestimating Weak Enemies

The community of Baldur’s Gate 3 has uncovered enemies in the game that may appear weaker, but actually pose a much greater threat than players anticipate.

Despite Larian’s RPG receiving critical acclaim for its numerous and formidable bosses that often demand players’ utmost attention and preparation, it should not be overlooked that even some of the seemingly unimportant enemies can pose a significant threat if not approached with the necessary caution and respect.

This encompassed the beings discovered in the initial zone of Baldur’s Gate 3, like the Red Caps and Frog located near Aunti Ethel’s residence.

A fan visited the game’s subreddit to inquire about the supposedly weaker enemies that have proven to be the most challenging for others. The community quickly responded with a list of creatures from the swamp in Act 1.

When discussing the Red Caps, a user remarked, “They’re just okay, nothing special. But then, someone comes in and acts like a dropkick.”

Another fan shared their own story in response to this comment. They recounted how, despite being defeated in their initial fight with them, their second match that ended in victory still had its consequences.

They recounted, “…The encounter concluded with my Tav and Shadowheart being knocked out, Gale barely hanging on with 1 HP, and Astarion surprisingly surviving with 11 HP due to the effects of False Life.”

Despite the Red Caps being a major threat to those traveling through Baldur’s Gate 3 Act 1, they were not the only danger. A single frog was also a significant threat to anyone making the journey.

Although typically non-aggressive, the Addled Frog will become hostile if provoked by a player for an extended period, resulting in unexpected and severe damage.

“A player was shocked when they witnessed someone’s entire team being obliterated by a small creature during a playthrough.”

One user went as far as to say that the Addled Frog nearly caused their Honour Mode playthrough to fail on its own.

While these two foes are prominently discussed in the thread, there are numerous others who have also shared their encounters with unexpected adversaries such as roaming bands of bandits, lone hermit crabs, and even a dying mind flayer that devoured the brains of a player who failed to resist its Mind Control.

Despite the dominance of foes like Raphael in discussions about Baldur’s Gate 3 and its perils, it appears that there are also numerous dangers that come in smaller forms.
