The partnership between music artist bbno$ and Fortnite for in-game cosmetics has reportedly been terminated due to the artist leaking the information prematurely.
On June 22, bbno$ shared a TikTok video claiming to have received an email from an Epic Games employee regarding a potential collaboration with Fortnite. The email detailed Epic’s interest in creating in-game cosmetic items featuring his latest song “it boy,”which was released on May 24.
Ever since its debut, the song has gained widespread popularity on TikTok, with more than 25,000 videos featuring its official audio. This surge in popularity caught the eye of Epic, who expressed interest in creating an emote and several items inspired by the song.
@bbnotiktok AINT NO WAY
Despite the initial video by bbno$ accumulating over 4.5 million views in less than a week, the excitement was short-lived as the artist had some unfortunate news for his fans shortly after it went viral.
Only three days after the email was leaked, bbno$ shared another TikTok on June 25 that featured him receiving yet another email. This email was about the cancellation of the collaboration. The TikTok can be viewed at this link.
The subject line of the email reads “TERMINATION: Fortnite x bbno$ collaboration // Breach of Confidentiality.”
The supposed official email declares that Epic Games has decided to end their collaboration with bbno$ and will not be producing the Fortnite cosmetics as promised. As bbno$ exits the view, additional parts of the purported email become visible. It explains that the termination of the partnership was due to the breach of confidentiality related to the previous TikTok collaboration.
@bbnotiktok bag = fumbled
Despite bbno$ appearing nonchalant, commenters expressed a different sentiment, placing blame on Fortnite rather than the artist.
One commenter questioned, “Was the free plug being punished for?”in response to a post by 7seesmusic.
It appears that a potential collaboration between the two could have enticed some individuals to return to the game, particularly given Fortnite’s history of working with popular musicians such as Lady Gaga, Eminem, Billie Eilish, and Metallica.
Another commenter exclaimed, “This is crazy, I would have re-downloaded Fortnite just for this!”
Despite bbno$’s claim, there is no concrete evidence that these emails were truly sent by Epic, as the email addresses were obscured in both videos. Without substantial proof, it is uncertain whether the collaboration was truly terminated or if it was ever in progress.
