  • Food isn’t essential for survival: Similar to Valhiem, food provides buffs but isn’t required to sustain life.
  • Staying hydrated boosts performance: While water isn’t necessary for survival, it enhances your attack speed.
  • Collect charcoal and paper: Vital for crafting and sketching, you can find charcoal at burnt stumps and old bonfires, while paper is key for later use.
  • Keep your Field Guide handy: Equip the Field Guide to assist in identifying plants and critters necessary for restoring the island’s ecosystem.
  • Crafting with resources: You only need one piece of paper and one piece of charcoal to start your sketching endeavors.
  • Gather insects: Bugs found on trees, such as blue or red ladybugs, play a crucial role in balancing ecosystems.
  • Maximize tool efficiency with combos: Hit the left click at the right time to perform a combo and affect multiple items.
  • Understanding crafting mechanics: The F mini-game in cooking is optional; it simply speeds up the crafting process, letting the timer continue without interruption.

To thrive in Aloft, crafting the right tools is essential. Initially, you can create a Stone Hammer (using Stone + Wood) without a Worktable, but many other recipes will require one. For instance, tools that start with the component “Stone”can later be crafted using bones.

  • Leaf Bucket: Used for watering plants and collecting milk from goats. Recipe: Leaf Cloth (x3) + Rope + Wood.
  • Shears: Necessary for harvesting wool from sheep and llamas. Recipe: Carved Wood + Hardstone (x2).
  • Spyglass: Enables distant view of islands. Recipe: Windstone Crystal (x2) + Leaves + Wood + Rope.
  • Stone Arrow: A projectile for bows. Recipe: Sharpened Stone + Wood + Feather.
  • Stone Axe: Essential for chopping trees. Recipe: Stone + Wood + Sharp Stone.
  • Stone Bow: Basic ranged weapon. Recipe: Carved Wood (x2) + Feather (x2) + Rope.
  • Stone Dorkip: Functions as a hoe. Recipe: Wood (x2) + Rope + Sharp Stone.

Restoring Island Ecosystems

A fundamental aspect of Aloft involves rejuvenating the islands’ ecosystems. Upon reaching a new island, if the landscape appears muted and plant collection is restricted, it indicates an unhealthy ecosystem. Equip your Guide Book and press the right mouse button to begin.

  • Tree Population: Increase the number of trees until it meets or exceeds the target number found in the fourth menu.
  • Flora Diversity: Utilize Emerald Isle seeds to enhance plant variety. Right-click while equipped to modify the seed type.
  • Decomposer Count: Grind Reishi Mushrooms in the Grindstone table to create Decomposers, which can be planted at medium-sized trees.
  • Animal Population: Introduce sheep, goats, or llamas from other islands, or construct birdhouses to improve this count.
  • Insect Diversity: Reintroduce red and blue ladybugs to the ecosystem. Access your inventory, highlight a bug, and press F to release them back into the environment.
  • Addressing Miscellaneous Items: Other required items may include fixing birdhouses or eliminating pests. These tasks will be highlighted in red when you hold your Guide Book.

Constructing Your Island Ship

Building an island ship is crucial for establishing your home base, where you can store materials, keep animals, and rest. This ship also serves as your respawn point.

To sail your island, you’ll need: a helm for steering, a sail for wind capture, a floater for buoyancy, and a rudder for navigation. Although a map isn’t required, it can facilitate exploration. Position your helm at the front of your island ship in your desired sailing direction.

Next, place the rudder at the rear, and position your sail in the middle. Depending on your design preferences, you can choose from four types of sails. Similarly, place floaters parallel to the island like wings.

Ensure that the front of the sail aligns with the front of the island; failing to do so will result in misalignment notifications in relation to your helm’s position. More sails equate to a greater wind capacity, but if your ship struggles to move, reassess the weight and size of the island. Avoid overly small islands to ensure your livestock can continue to produce resources.

Acquiring Wool Cloth in Aloft

You will encounter the recipe for a sewing table relatively early in the game; however, the loom, essential for crafting wool cloth, is obtained later. Mastery of these tools is necessary for upgrading your gear. Currently, three outfits are available in Aloft.

While the islands are procedurally generated, players often find looms located in the third section of the map. In my personal experience, I discovered several two islands east of the starting area.
