Trials of Osiris in Destiny 2 has a knack for delivering unexpected results, as weapons can quickly rise to the top of the meta. This trend has continued, as a recently introduced Exotic has been dominating the kill counts in the past week.
Trials Report on Twitter/X reveals that the Khvostov 7G-0X is being used extensively in the competitive PvP mode. In total, the weapon has garnered over 4.9 million kills, surpassing its closest competitor, the recently released Red Death Reformed, which achieved a still impressive 1.359 million kills.
The Khvostov was used for 24% of the kills in Trials this week.Since Trials of Osiris returned, the only weapon to ever get more was really really broken: it was the Ammit AR2 during The Craftening week (37%). pic.twitter.com/t9cjKQFQMW

Last week, Red Death Reformed came in second with a 7% share of total kills across Trials of Osiris, while the top spot was claimed by another player with a 24% share. The remaining positions in the top ten were mostly filled by familiar contenders, such as Rose, The Summoner (Adept), and Conditional Finality.
One important factor that is not reflected in these statistics is the level of success players have achieved while using the Khvostov. While it is widely acknowledged that the gun is currently performing exceptionally well, it remains uncertain how many players were able to achieve a flawless record in Trials by relying on the weapon as their primary choice.
This marks the greatest percentage of usage since the Ammit-AR2 gained popularity during The Craftening. This event revealed a glitch in which players could transfer the perks of one weapon to another through clever manipulation of the network.
Therefore, it may not be appropriate for the community to give up on the possibility of nerfs at this point in time. While the gun’s time-to-kill is satisfactory, it is not surpassing other dominant weapons by a significant margin, and Bungie will probably exercise caution before making any nerfing decisions.
Despite this, numerous players have been voicing their desires for certain nerfs in the comments section. One fan suggested, “Personally, I believe the issue lies in the simple generation of orbs that result in enhanced ricochets. If the enhanced ricochet and Speakers Helm’s easy orbs strategy were to be nerfed, I believe the gun would be balanced. It may not seem as overpowered as the numbers suggest at its base level.”
A different user commented, “The gun seems overpowered, but I’m not sure if I’m ready to label it as such. Skilled shooting can consistently outperform it. However, perhaps it does require some adjustments. It’s possible that automatic weapons, which are the most user-friendly, shouldn’t be as deadly.”
At this time, it is unclear if the upcoming update next week will address any potential nerfs for the Khvostov or other Trials weapons.
