Developers of Overwatch 2 caution of upcoming nerfs for Sombra and Ana to improve Tank gameplay

The Overwatch 2 team is considering adjustments to Sombra and Ana in order to reduce the effectiveness of crowd-control abilities as a means of countering tanks.

Playing as a tank in Overwatch can be challenging, especially when facing certain opponents. Heroes such as Sombra with her Hack, Ana with her Sleep Dart and Biotic Grenade, or Mei with her Wall and Primary Fire slow, have abilities that can effectively counter tanks.

Despite taking measures to reduce the amount of crowd control in the sequel through changes to abilities or weakening their impact on tanks, Blizzard has stated that they are not finished with making adjustments.

During an interview with Twitch streamer Spilo, Overwatch 2 Hero Designer Alec Dawson revealed that tanks may receive additional buffs in order to better withstand crowd control, resulting in potential nerfs to two specific heroes.

“A topic that comes up often is the appropriate level of extremity for crowd control. Our focus is on whether certain abilities should have a reduced effect on tanks.”

Dawson has stated that both Ana and Sombra are currently under scrutiny, with a focus on making further adjustments to the support sniper’s Sleep Dart and Sombra’s Hack ability.

He suggested that perhaps Hack should delay attacking a tank, as this would allow a hero such as Wrecking Ball to use their mobility and escape the attack.

Despite the possibility of these changes being implemented, Dawson suggested that an alternative approach could be taken, such as reducing the health pool of tanks, in order to reach a compromise.

The developer did not specify a timeline for the potential changes, but did confirm that Reinhardt and Winston would finally receive damage buffs in an upcoming patch.

In addition, he hinted that the upcoming hero, Space Ranger, may join Lucio in the support role with her own speed boosting ability when she is released in Season 12.
