EVO 2024: World’s Largest Esports Event to Date

The 2024 Evolution Championship Series has achieved the status of being the biggest esports event ever, with a record-breaking number of players taking part in the renowned fighting game competition.

EVO, known as the biggest fighting game tournament in the world, attracts players from around the globe to Las Vegas, Nevada for a weekend of intense competition and camaraderie.

EVO, known as the ultimate destination for fighting games, has consistently expanded and improved each year. Its recent move from the Mandalay Bay to the Las Vegas Convention Center has solidified its place in history with a major achievement.

According to a press release dated June 26, 2024, this year’s EVO has surpassed all previous open-bracket esports events, with a record-breaking 10,224 players from 63 countries participating from around the world.

EVO is the proverbial ‘Mecca’ of fighting game culture, and this year, it’s bigger than ever before.

In addition, EVO 2024 boasts the biggest tournament brackets to date for popular titles such as TEKKEN 8, Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising, and Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike.

“According to EVO’s General Manager, Rick Thiher, the historic event in Las Vegas sees a growing number of participants each year who are eager to showcase their competitive spirit.”

“One of the most remarkable aspects of fighting games is the enduring presence of returning players, accompanied each year by a fresh generation eager to make a mark at EVO. This event stands out not only for the exciting competition between established and emerging players, but also for the sense of unity and shared culture among these different generations.”

This is not the first instance where EVO has made notable achievements in esports history. In the previous year, EVO had reached a record-breaking number of attendees (which has since been surpassed), resulting in long lines extending from the Mandalay Bay casino entrance all the way to the lobby.

EVO 2023 saw a record number of attendees – a record that has now been broken as of June 2024.

In addition, EVO was granted its own holiday in Las Vegas, called ‘EVO Day,’ during that year. The event’s founders, the Cannon brothers, were also recognized and awarded the key to the city for their notable achievements.

Each year, EVO remains at the forefront of breaking barriers and uniting members of the fighting game community. With its upcoming event at the Las Vegas Convention Center on July 19-21, there is even more to anticipate than ever before.

This year’s EVO is packed with exciting attractions that the FGC won’t want to miss, including a display of fighting game artwork from all eras, a cosplay competition, photo-worthy dioramas, and other special events.
