(G)I-DLE Yuqi’s Hair in ‘Klaxon’ MV Raises Brows: ‘Please Don’t Piss Me Off’

Despite the high anticipation of fans for (G)I-DLE’s comeback song “Klaxon,”some Neverlands were let down upon viewing Yuqi’s hair in the music video.

On July 8, the popular group (G)I-DLE has returned to the music scene after a six-month hiatus with their highly anticipated 7th mini-album, “I SWAY.”The album features four tracks, including the title track “Klaxon,”along with the b-sides “Last Forever,””Bloom,”and “Neverland.”

With the release of this album, the quintet reaffirmed their “self-produced”identity as all five members were involved in the production of every song. Additionally, leader Soyeon took on the roles of songwriter, composer, and arranger for the entire tracklist.

The music video for “Klaxon”was revealed on the same day, showcasing a lively summer atmosphere as the five members can be seen having a good time participating in different outdoor activities while wearing their swimwear.

Currently, the official MV has accumulated 5.4 million views in under 24 hours, demonstrating the immense impact and presence of (G)I-DLE in the K-pop industry.

Additionally, the group’s SNS account has also been sharing dance challenges featuring the members, marking the start of a new era of music for the team.

Despite gaining attention for her newly dyed black hair and receiving admiration for her vibrant beauty, Yuqi has also faced criticism from fans for her braided hair.

After seeing her hair in the music video and dance challenge, some of her black supporters were shocked by her braided hairstyle, which closely resembled box braids. Even her non-black fans were concerned that this could potentially spark a cultural appropriation controversy.

Fortunately, it was determined that it is not CA. As the video was recorded in Thailand, locals from Southeast Asia clarified that the hairstyle is simply a typical braid embellished with ribbons, and is currently trending on beaches.

Despite this, Neverlands is raising concerns about Yuqi’s stylist for choosing a hairstyle that could potentially cause confusion. Given the beach theme of the song, several fans have expressed disappointment that the female idol was not given a more adorable hairstyle that would better match the summer atmosphere.

Despite the various CA accusations surrounding (G)I-DLE in the past, many believe that the braid was also poorly executed and that the stylist should have taken more care.

Despite the issue, fans continue to show their support for the album. YUQI contributed to the album by writing a fan song called “Neverland,”named after the fandom. She shared the meaning behind the song, stating:

“There are times when it is tiring and difficult, but we are still moving towards our dreams, and we do not give up and work hard.”

In addition to writing and composing, Yuqi also created “Last Forever,”a song that she described as being about dreams. She further commented:

“It contains the message that ‘it was hard, but we persevered, and in the future, let’s not change our original intentions, and let’s run hard towards our dreams’.”
