Honkai Star Rail has finally listened to players’ concerns regarding the viability of older characters in their gameplay. During the most recent 3.0 Amphoreus: Special Edition Developer Radio, developers acknowledged a persistent issue: classic characters like Welt and Silver Wolf have been significantly outperformed by newer, more powerful units.
Addressing Community Concerns: Revitalizing Old Characters
As players have expressed their frustrations, the developers have acknowledged that many once-popular characters are now sitting on the sidelines due to the phenomenon of power creep. This imbalance within the game’s ecosystem has made it difficult for older units to compete effectively.
In a promising move, the developers stated that they are aware of the “difficulty deploying older characters on the battlefield, ” and they assured fans that improving these characters is already in the pipeline. This statement hints at the possibility of actual buffs, as opposed to merely introducing new relics or light cones that might not significantly enhance a character’s performance.

Following the announcement, player reactions were largely optimistic, with many taking to platforms like Reddit to express their hopes: “They mention strengthening older characters… You have my attention, ” one user noted, while another remarked, “Wait, they actually might be cooking.” Nonetheless, a segment of players are expressing skepticism about whether these adjustments will genuinely bridge the power gap or if they merely represent an enhancement of relics.
Enhancements Beyond Character Buffs
In addition to tweaking older character performances, the developers addressed concerns surrounding the narrative elements of the Amphoreus story. Players voiced that the previous updates contained excessive lore exposition and overly complex puzzles. The team confessed, “We have received feedback that the Amphoreus main story contains excessive lore exposition and too much reading.” Looking forward, they plan to streamline dialogue, allowing players the option to skip sections that delve too deeply into lore.
Moreover, they acknowledged that puzzle-solving mechanisms had become overly intricate and have committed to simplifying future challenges. While these quality-of-life improvements were articulated clearly, specifics regarding the nature of character buffs remain somewhat ambiguous. The apprehension among players centers around the concern that mere relic sets might not suffice; one frustrated fan stated, “No relic set alone is saving Silver Wolf.”
However, if genuine kit buffs are introduced, it could significantly alter the current meta and reinvigorate interest in previously neglected characters. It is clear that player feedback has been taken seriously across the board, and miHoYo appears poised to implement meaningful changes in future patches.
