House of the Dragon Season 2 Episode 4: Setting Up Epic Deaths

The upcoming episode of House of the Dragon Season 2, titled “The Haunting of Harrenhal”, will continue to delve into the eerie atmosphere of the castle. Daemon’s visions at night will provide hints and clues towards the most significant deaths that will occur in the show.

The emotional intensity of House of the Dragon Season 2 Episode 4 was heightened when Rhaenyra was left with no choice but to send Rhaenys and Meleys to the Battle at Rook’s Nest, despite her attempts to persuade Alicent to end the war.

Despite the aerial battle between Aemond, Aegon, and Rhaenys, and the ground fight between Criston Cole and Gwayne Hightower, Daemon remained absent.

Similarly to Episode 3, Daemon remained mostly disconnected from reality. He beheaded young Rhaenyra, who had provoked him by commenting on his jealousy towards Viserys’ affection for his daughter. He also had another typically foreboding exchange with Alys Rivers.

Significantly, while chasing after a person with Targaryen hair in the castle, he catches a glimpse of himself – except he is wearing an eyepatch, similar to Aemond. If you wish to avoid potential spoilers, this would be a good time to stop reading.

If House of the Dragon remains faithful to the book it is adapted from, this will be yet another significant hint at the impending clash between Aemond and Daemon in the Battle Above the Gods Eye.

In Fire and Blood by George R.R. Martin, both characters engage in an aerial battle above Harrenhal and the largest lake in the Seven Kingdoms, using Vhagar and Caraxes as their weapons.

As Vhagar ravages Caraxes’ body, Daemon bravely leaps onto the attacking dragon and thrusts his sword into Aemond’s remaining eye. They both fall into the water along with their deceased dragons.

Aemond’s Ewan Mitchell also discussed the similarities between himself and Daemon, after Alys had prophesied his demise in the same location. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, he elaborated on the parallels between the two characters.

“He explained that Aemond perhaps wished that Daemon could see a reflection of himself in Aemond.”

Aemond’s appearance strongly resembles that of a young Daemon Targaryen, with his Targaryen black hair and long locks. This similarity pays homage to the renowned Targaryen.

“It’s reminiscent of the rogue prince in many ways. Aemond, being Daemon’s biggest fan, would certainly be happy to live in his mind without any cost.”

Be sure to keep track of when the next episode of House of the Dragon airs. In addition, episode 4 raises some significant questions, such as whether Alicent is expecting and if Aegon has met his demise.
