How to solve Ferryman of the Drowned puzzle

To obtain the reward at the end, players must complete six steps at Point Hope Lighthouse in Phasmophobia in order to solve the mystery of the Ferryman of the Drowned.

Step 1: Play some pool

To begin, make your way to the game room located on the fourth floor. Scan the walls for three pictures displaying shells in blue, green, and red hues. These images will serve as the initial clue and guide you to the first step of the puzzle.

It can be easy to confuse the orange and red balls, so be careful when picking them up.

Locate the pool table in this room and then search for the matching colored balls. Be sure to specifically look for:

  • The striped green ball
  • The striped blue ball
  • The solid red ball

Place them in any hole on the pool table in the same order as the pictures on the wall, from left to right. If done correctly, you will hear a clicking sound.

Glance into the hole at the end of the pool table, located at the back of the room, to discover a key. Retrieve it and proceed upstairs for your next task.

Step 2: Find the Gear

The eighth floor holds the key to completing the puzzle – locating the gear. You’ll be certain you’ve reached the correct room when you come across several workbenches and woodworking projects.

The gear is sitting in the dark so make sure to shine a torch on it to see it properly.

The necessary gear can be located on the left side of the workbench, where the Monkey Paw is typically found. As the area is poorly lit, be sure to have a torch or headlamp on hand to help you locate it. Once you have retrieved the gear, you are prepared for Step 3.

Unlock the box & insert the gear

The ninth floor is where you can locate the box that can be unlocked with the key. This floor also houses various gas canisters, boxes, and gears.

As you ascend the staircase, make an immediate right and search for a sizable box with a locked door. Utilize the key to unlock the door, then place the gear into the empty cog.

Step 4: Ring the bell

After inserting the gear, you will have enough time to go downstairs and make your way outside to the front of Point Hope. Keep an eye out for the bell located at the end of the walkway leading from the van.

To confirm that you have completed this step successfully, ring the bell three times and listen for a fire sound cue. This will indicate that you have completed the step correctly.

# Step 5: Find the cave

After ringing the bell, make your way directly to the highest point of the Lighthouse. From there, peer over the edge and you will spot a cave illuminated by flames (this was the sound cue that accompanied the bell ring).

Next, you will come across the final clue in this puzzle – a group of rocks arranged to spell out ‘UV.’

Step 6: Utilize Your UV

To complete the Ferryman of the Drowned puzzle, the final step is to direct UV light into the Lighthouse’s beam. Move closer and continue shining until the entire light transforms into a purple hue.
