SYNDI8, consisting of four members – Canary, Nest, Goyo, and Raven, released their debut album globally on both domestic and international music platforms. The album was accompanied by an animated video that conveyed the message of the album.

A recent post from SYNDI8’s official account has caused a stir on online communities and social media sites.

The troublesome post was published on June 21st on SYNDI8’s official X (previously known as Twitter) and featured material from the chat-style novel game app “Storyplay: Interactive story”.

The post stated, “They’re not looking for SYNDI8, they’re actually recruiting Canary.”Canary has 500,000 subscribers on “Neotube”all by themselves! After being praised for their excellent songs by Cholssakman, Canary ended up singing five songs in a row…?!”

A picture that looked like a YouTube thumbnail was also shared in the post.

Internet users noted that the monikers SYNDI8 and Canary, as well as the popular YouTuber with 500,000 subscribers known as “Cholssakman,”brought to mind notable figures.

K-netizens pointed out that the group name SYNDI8 bore resemblance to The8, a member of the group Seventeen, while the name Canary was reminiscent of Karina from the group aespa.

Moreover, Cholssakman made connections to Calm Down Man, who is both a webtoon artist and a YouTuber.

The controversy heightened as the bearded depiction of Cholssakman in the post bore a striking resemblance to the true likeness of Calm Down Man.

Upon the reveal of the group name, several netizens expressed criticism with statements such as, “The name immediately made me think of Seventeen,””Why did they have to make it so similar?”and “Did they receive permission from Calm Down Man?”Others also commented on the striking resemblance between the two names.

Despite the criticism, others came to the post’s defense, questioning, “Can’t they at least handle this kind of parody?”and suggesting, “Shouldn’t we just brush it off and laugh?”
