Kick Staff Weighs in on Potential Ban of Dr Disrespect Amid Twitch Scandal

Despite his admission that the reason for his Twitch ban was for sending inappropriate DMs to a minor, Kick is still considering the possibility of banning Dr Disrespect from streaming on the green platform.

In June, the streaming community was shocked when a former Twitch employee disclosed the reasons behind the enigmatic ban of Dr Disrespect in 2020.

Once further sources confirmed the allegations, Doc admitted to sending direct messages to a minor. However, he emphasized that he was never charged with a crime and that Twitch honored his entire contract.

Despite being previously associated with numerous brands, including his game studio Midnight Society, The San Francisco 49ers, and 2K Games, the individual has since lost these partnerships. As a result, 2K Games has announced that they will be removing his content from NBA 2K24 in a future patch.

Despite being on an extended streaming hiatus, Dr Disrespect has stated that he plans to make a comeback. If he happens to be banned from YouTube, he may potentially join Kick as an alternative platform.

While streaming, we inquired with Kick’s Head of Strategic Partnerships, Andrew Santamaria, about the potential ban of Dr Disrespect from the platform if he were to join.

“In my opinion, it is highly unlikely for Doc to join Kick, almost as far-fetched as a serious holiday. I just don’t see it happening in reality.”

Santamaria added that there was still a lot to be resolved in the Doc controversy and he could not yet confirm if he would be permitted on the site.

“The cavern of Whispers is still there, waiting to be unlocked. It’s hard to say for sure. In my opinion, it’s too early to even think about it. From what I’ve observed with Doc, I don’t expect him to make a comeback anytime soon. It seems like he sincerely wants to take a break and relax,”he shared. “I don’t feel comfortable commenting on it.”

In 2023, the Kick staff disclosed that they were in talks with Doc following his request for a $50M contract, which was half of what his fellow streamer Felix ‘xQc’ Lengyel had received.

Despite the platform’s offer of $10 million per year, the content creator refused and maintained his demand of $50 million, resulting in no agreement being reached.

The streamer declined the offer, citing his businesses including his gaming studio and Black Steel Bourbon company as the main reasons.

“As we admire our appearance and bask in our confident state, the speaker casually mentions cruising in his collection of Lamborghinis. He seems unbothered and in no hurry.”
