One year after it was revealed, Concord has finally gained widespread attention. The live-service hero shooter, developed by PlayStation, now has a confirmed release date and fans can get an early look at gameplay for a taste of what’s to come.
Initially revealed in 2023, Concord was introduced as one of the latest endeavors by PlayStation Studios in the realm of live-service gaming. Although a few of these undertakings, such as The Last of Us Factions, have yet to materialize for various reasons, Concord has stayed on course and is now on the verge of release.
Originally labeled as a PVP first-person shooter, it has become evident that Concord serves as Sony’s response to the popular hero shooter category. The game features a diverse cast of characters, each with their own distinct abilities and weapons, competing in a multiplayer environment that offers endless replay value.
After an in-depth presentation at the May 2024 PlayStation State of Play event, we have gained a wealth of information about the highly anticipated release. This includes everything from its Early Access Beta to the initial details of the gameplay, providing a comprehensive overview of Concord.

Concord release date
The official release date for Concord is set for Friday, August 23, 2024.
The release date was officially confirmed during Sony’s May 2024 State of Play broadcast, as part of the full gameplay reveal.
Is Concord Available for Free?
Unlike free-to-play games, Concord is a full-price title upon release. There will be two editions available, the standard edition priced at $40 USD and the deluxe edition priced at $60 USD.
Even though there may be a simplified free-to-play version released later on, similar to other hero shooters like Overwatch 2, we will have to wait and see if that is the case.
Rival crews battle it out each mission to claim their reward in Concord.
Concord platforms
Concord will have a simultaneous release on both PS5 and PC. This is only the second time in Sony’s history that they have had a concurrent launch, following the highly successful release of Helldivers 2 earlier this year, which broke Sony’s player count records.
Despite the lack of any news about a PS4 release, it can be assumed that Concorn is only available on current-generation consoles.
Concord Beta
Concord’s Beta is approaching, with two weekends scheduled to allow potential players to experience the action for the first time.
The Early Access Beta will begin on July 12 and end on July 14, followed by the Open Beta from July 18 to July 21.
Those who pre-order Concord will receive early access to the beta version, followed by an open beta the following week that will be available to everyone.

Concord Gameplay Details
At its core, Concord is a 5v5 hero shooter that features a diverse cast of characters, each with their own set of specialized abilities. Although the development team prioritized first-person shooter fundamentals since the project’s inception, aiming prowess alone won’t guarantee victory in matches. The game’s balance and fluid gameplay were also key considerations in its creation.
The developers have teased that having good aim and thumb skill may not always guarantee a win. The launch roster includes 16 characters, known as Freegunners, each with their own unique abilities that can greatly impact the game. Some of these abilities may sound familiar to players.
Similar to Mei’s walling-off ability in Overwatch 2, there is a feature that enables players to obstruct a line of sight. In addition, another character has the ability to create a dome that blocks bullets, reminiscent of Winston’s bubble in Overwatch 2. There are also explosive traps that would appeal to fans of Junkrat.
Some Freegunners can levitate, others can set traps for rival crews. It’s all a matter of mastering your kit in Concord.
It is anticipated that two factions of Freegunners will engage in combat through a variety of distinct game modes. However, the specific details of these modes and their objectives are yet to be revealed.
Concord is a live-service game that continuously unfolds its story during gameplay. It will feature weekly releases of new cinematics from launch, providing fans with fresh story elements, character development, and more on a regular basis.
Concord Developers
Firewalk Studios, a Washington-based development team under the PlayStation Studios umbrella, is the force behind the creation of Concord. With its establishment in 2018, the team has grown to over 100 full-time employees and is currently preparing for the launch of their first project, Concord.
Ryan Ellis, co-founder of the studio, holds the position of Game Director for Concord. He is renowned for his seven-year contribution at Bungie, where he served as Creative Director for Destiny 2 and also worked as the Technical Art Director for the original Destiny.
Bungie, a studio known for its expertise in live-service games, is also a supporting studio for Concord. Although the exact details of their relationship are not known, Bungie was acquired by Sony in 2022 for $3.6 billion. It is likely that their experience in creating ongoing streams of content has been beneficial in the development of Concord’s content model.
