A Brief Recap of NieR: Automata Ver1.1a Episode 13
The episode began with 9S and 2B embarking on a scouting mission, during which they encountered a large group of Machines that they were able to defeat. 9S expressed a desire to assist a Resistance soldier who was searching for her YoRHa android comrade. Upon discovering the android’s lifeless body, the Resistance soldier arrived at the scene as well.
The Resistance soldier, who had unexpectedly regained her memories, disclosed that she was an E-type android primarily responsible for eliminating rebellious YoRHa androids. Consumed by intense remorse, she chose to end her own life by jumping from the terrace of a building.
Afterwards, 2B and 9S proceeded to investigate a nearby shrine, but 2B decided to abort the mission in order to prevent 9S from coming across his previous body. While exploring a shopping mall, they came across a massive Machine that showed no signs of aggression towards them.
Despite adhering to her directives, 2B ultimately terminated the entity. In an unexpected turn of events, a talking head emerged from the Machine and managed to flee from the hostile environment. 2B eliminated 9S and disclosed her updated identity as 2E, assigned to eliminate him for extracting classified information from the Bunker.
The Commander, who observed the scene from a distance, held onto the hope that this would be the final time 9S would have to endure such a fate. It was clear that the Commander had been forced to terminate 9S multiple times before. As the YoRHa squadron gathered, the Commander declared that it was time to prepare for the ultimate showdown against the Machines on Earth.
