One Piece chapter 1119: The Huge Power Gap Between Luffy and Sanji

During the course of One Piece, Monkey D. Luffy consistently displayed a higher level of strength compared to Sanji, the cook and third-ranked fighter of the Straw Hat crew. In the beginning of the series, Luffy easily defeated Krieg, whereas Sanji was no match for him. After the two-year timeskip, Doflamingo easily defeated Sanji, while Luffy was able to not only battle, but also ultimately defeat the same enemy.

Despite not yet achieving Gear 5, Luffy displayed impressive strength by using Advanced Conqueror’s Haki to defend against Kaido. Meanwhile, Sanji quickly fell unconscious after defeating Queen, who was easily defeated by a weakened Big Mom. In Egghead, Luffy engaged in a lengthy battle against the Gorosei, while Sanji could only hold his own for a brief period. Ultimately, he was overpowered by Saturn and subsequently thrown aside by Nusjuro.

Despite being the captain of the Straw Hats and the main character of One Piece, Luffy’s strength surpasses that of anyone else, which is hardly surprising. Despite not being able to match Luffy’s strength, Sanji is still a highly skilled and respected fighter. However, according to the spoilers for One Piece chapter 1119, it appears that the gap in strength between Luffy and Sanji is even wider than previously believed.

One Piece Powerscaling: Luffy’s Unprecedented Resistance to Sanji’s Ifrit Jambe Hell Memories

What Happened in One Piece Chapter 1119?

Fans can now anticipate the official release of One Piece chapter 1119 on July 1, 2024. In the meantime, they can satisfy their curiosity by checking out the latest spoilers and raw scans for the new installment. The story continues from the previous chapter, as Luffy and Jewelry Bonney prepare to launch their attack on Saint Marcus Mars.

Luffy has activated his Gear 5 form, while Bonney has transformed into a Nika-like state using her Distorted Future technique. As Saint Mars releases a fierce fire blast, Luffy inflates himself into a massive balloon to shield against the attack. He notes that the Gorosei seem impervious to harm as they can regenerate any injuries. Therefore, the most effective solution is to launch them as far away as possible.

In order to blast Mars away, Luffy requested that Bonney, Sanji, and Franky use their most powerful attacks on his balloon body with full force, as if they were trying to kill him. By doing so, he planned to combine the impact of their strikes with the elasticity of his body.

Despite Luffy’s efforts to maintain the stability of Mars, Franky, Sanji, and Bonney all join in and attack with full force. Bonney utilizes her Nika-like abilities to deliver a powerful punch, Sanji unleashes his Ifrit Jambe: Hell Memories, and Franky brings down his Impactful Strong Right.

Despite Luffy’s declaration that it was painful, his opponents had infused their techniques with Haki. However, without hesitation, Luffy quickly executes Booming Dawn Balloon, merging their attacks with his own strength and unleashing it all at once. The tremendous force obliterates Mars, causing him to vanish into the sky.

The much-awaited full power Ifrit Jambe was underwhelming

Sanji’s most powerful technique is Hell Memories, in which he ignites his entire body and delivers a fiery kick to his opponent. This move was showcased in One Piece chapter 1119 and can be enhanced by combining it with Ifrit Jambe, an upgraded form of his signature Diable Jambe.

After unlocking the special genes within his family, Sanji acquired a durable exoskeleton. By utilizing Armament Haki, he was able to combine his enhanced durability with the ability to withstand even hotter and more powerful flames. This allowed him to upgrade his previous Diable Jambe to the more formidable Ifrit Jambe.

In chapter 1119, the long-awaited moment for One Piece fans came true as they witnessed Sanji executing Hell Memories while simultaneously utilizing Ifrit Jambe. The attack’s intense heat and sheer brute force were speculated to be absolutely mind-blowing, and the actual occurrence confirmed this.

Despite the high expectations, the highly-anticipated Ifrit Jambe: Hell Memories did not live up to its hype. Instead of being used in a one-on-one battle, Sanji incorporated it into a collaborative attack to enhance Luffy’s subsequent strike.

Despite the circumstances, Sanji’s combo partners were not Zoro or Jinbe, but instead Franky and Bonney, which was perceived as a significant step down. To make matters worse, Sanji was not given any special treatment in comparison to them, as the scene implied that he was on equal footing with Bonney and Franky.

Despite using his absolute strongest move for the first time in the series, Sanji’s attack received no greater emphasis than Franky’s fist and Bonney’s temporary Nika-like form. This casual portrayal of Sanji’s full power was underwhelming for fans who were eagerly anticipating it.

Despite its potential in terms of style and visuals, the Ifrit Jambe: Hell Memories fell short of expectations. It was given a small panel, making it easily overlooked and lacking significance. This lack of attention ultimately disappointed many fans.

Whenever Sanji activates his inherited abilities, his eyebrow temporarily becomes inverted. This was also the case when he executed Ifrit Jambe: Hell Memories in One Piece chapter 1119.

Sanji, Franky, and Bonney unleashed their most powerful techniques, each determined to give it their all. It was emphasized that they had to attack with the intention of inflicting serious harm, in order to tap into their full potential. Despite their reluctance to harm Luffy, they struck him as if they were willing to do so.

Despite the strength of their combined attack, Luffy was only slightly injured. His balloon-like technique typically requires the use of Haki, which he can use to enhance his durability while maintaining his elastic and bouncy body. However, he didn’t feel the need to activate Haki in order to endure the force of Sanji, Bonney, and Franky’s attack.

Despite Luffy’s loud outburst, it held little significance in comparison to other instances in the series. For example, Kaido had previously yelled in pain when struck by Momonosuke or the Red Scabbards, even though their attacks were relatively ineffective against him due to his immense strength and resilience. Similarly, Sanji claimed to have been hurt by bullets from the Beasts Pirates, despite showing no visible signs of injury.

Despite being hit with the combined strength of Sanji, Bonney, and Franky, Luffy showed no signs of injury or slowing down as he continued to engage in a fight with Saint Ju Peter. This proved that even with the help of two powerful allies, Sanji’s full strength was not enough to even slow down Luffy, let alone cause significant harm.

It is highly unlikely that Sanji would be able to inflict significant harm on characters like Kaido, Big Mom, King, and the Seraphim cyborgs, even if he were to use his most powerful techniques, Hell Memories and Ifrit Jambe, to their fullest extent.

Unfortunately, Sanji’s strength is scaled down

The general consensus is that Luffy is far stronger than Sanji, leaving the impression that the latter is powerless against him. While it was widely acknowledged that there was a significant difference in their abilities, few anticipated it to be as vast as it was portrayed. The depiction of Sanji’s strength was greatly disappointing, as it implied that Luffy was completely unaffected by his full force attack and felt no threat to his safety.

It appeared that Sanji alone may not have been strong enough to aid Luffy, as he had to join forces with Bonney and Franky. Despite this, Sanji’s contribution was not more significant than theirs. Luffy even disregarded Sanji’s individual prowess, as he failed to mention how the Ifrit Jambe attack was close to melting his back.

Despite being engulfed in Kaido’s Rising Dragon: Flame Bagua and Saint Mars’ fire blast, Luffy was relatively unscathed. However, when faced with Sanji’s Ifrit Jambe, Luffy barely flinched even after being hit directly. This caused some fans to question the true power and heat of Sanji’s flames, which were believed to be the hottest in the One Piece series.

Undoubtedly, the events of chapter 1119 will have a lasting impact on the discussions surrounding the powerscaling in One Piece. After witnessing Sanji’s underwhelming display of his full strength with Ifrit Jambe, fans were quick to point out that author Eiichiro Oda would never portray Zoro in a similar manner.

In a similar scenario, it would be impossible for Luffy to endure an attack from Zoro as effortlessly as he did with Sanji and the others. Prior to mastering the Advanced Conqueror’s Haki and utilizing the King of Hell Style, Zoro was capable of causing a Yonko to evade, causing Big Mom to shriek in terror over Kaido’s safety.

In the same battle, Zoro could inflict injury on Kaido using even his weakest attacks, and ultimately cause the Yonko to sustain a permanent injury. Therefore, it is evident that if Zoro were to strike Luffy with his current maximum strength, utilizing both Ashura and King of Hell Style, the leader of the Straw Hat Pirates would undoubtedly suffer immense harm. It is possible that the wound could even prove fatal.

Despite this, it should be acknowledged that Luffy’s endurance and resilience have reached an extraordinary level, surpassing even that of a powerful Yonko. Despite being hit directly by Mars and enduring the combined attacks of Sanji, Franky, and Bonney, Luffy emerged unscathed. This incredible display once again solidifies Luffy’s stature as a formidable opponent.
