Opinions on One Main Character in Demon Slayer

Despite being adored by many, fans of Demon Slayer believe that one of the main characters has not been properly represented in the manga’s writing.

Nezuko, the deuteragonist of Demon Slayer, has gained immense popularity among the series’ fans. She is Tanjiro’s younger sister who, in the beginning of the story, is transformed into a demon. From that point on, she has been accompanying her brother on his quest.

Despite being a shonen heroine, she stands out by not relying on the protagonist in battles and is not objectified for fan service. Her bond with Tanjiro is integral to the story and one of its highlights.

Despite possessing strength, narrative significance, and cuteness, Nezuko is still perceived as underdeveloped by viewers. Despite being a central character and appearing in nearly every arc of Demon Slayer, she does not experience significant character growth.

While she often appears in lighthearted moments or battles, this limits her opportunities for character development. As a result, she has become more of a mascot for the anime show rather than a fully fleshed-out character.

In addition, fans have noticed that she lacks personality. Despite having a tragic backstory and being a newly transformed demon, she had the potential to be one of the most captivating characters in the story. However, the author of Demon Slayer chose to steer clear of any dark paths for her, much to the dismay of his audience.

According to a fan on Reddit, Nezuko is a character who, despite being liked, lacks a strong personality and is hindered by the hypnosis aspect in their opinion.

“Another person chimed in, stating, “I feel like there are many characters who fit this description, but I personally think Nezuko takes the cake. She often becomes nothing more than a plot device or a cute mascot, and her powers are often underwhelming and undeserved. As a main character, she falls short in comparison.”

A third person chimed in, questioning whether the series needed more development or simply better writing. They further remarked that Nezuko, in her current state, seems to serve as nothing more than a cute mascot with convenient plot devices. Meanwhile, a fourth individual stated that Nezuko lacks any distinct character.

Another user expressed their admiration for Nezuko but noted that her lack of personality may be due to her minimal dialogue in the first three and a half seasons. They suggested that she should have more opportunities to speak and develop a more intriguing character.

One character from Demon Slayer that fans feel lacks depth is the main antagonist, Muzan Kibutsuji. His one-dimensional portrayal and lackluster presence as a villain have been criticized by many, despite the overall excellence of the story.

In the upcoming finale of Demon Slayer Season 4, Muzan will confront the Hashira who are still alive.
