A recent Ryanair flight from Edinburgh to Alicante encountered a two-hour delay following a serious violation of onboard regulations. The incident involved a 21-year-old passenger who was caught vaping in the airplane’s lavatory, which activated the smoke alarm and necessitated a comprehensive police response.
Scheduled to depart at 7:05 a.m.on July 3, the flight was already experiencing delays due to staff illness. However, the situation escalated when smoke was detected in the restroom, allegedly from a passenger attempting to use a vape device.
Passenger Blacklisted After In-Flight Vaping Incident
According to eyewitness Tristan James Walker, who documented the incident and shared it on TikTok, six police officers boarded the aircraft to handle the matter. The passenger responded calmly during the intervention. Interestingly, Walker later encountered the same individual in Benidorm, where the man told him he only received a caution and was now banned from flying with Ryanair.
Walker expressed concern that the passenger should have received a warning prior to being removed from the flight, citing a previous incident in which a traveler from Italy was only cautioned after lighting a cigarette.

Police Scotland later confirmed that the individual was charged with an aviation offense. Nevertheless, the remaining 196 passengers eventually reached their destination by 8:28 a.m., as detailed by FlightAware data, following the prolonged flight delay.
This incident contributes to a growing list of recent controversies in air travel, including a separate occurrence where a pilot had to turn around mid-flight after forgetting his passport. Furthermore, a Florida man recently gained notoriety for impersonating a flight attendant to secure over 120 free flights, now facing substantial legal repercussions including a possible 30-year prison sentence.
