Roblox has introduced a significant update to its age verification system, which was initially announced in November 2025. This global initiative mandates that all players provide a facial image to confirm their age, aiming to enhance safety measures for its younger audience.
The impetus for these changes stems from various legal challenges and claims regarding Roblox’s commitment to safeguarding minors. In response, the company has pledged to bolster its protective measures, thereby ensuring that underage users are shielded from potential threats such as predators and impersonators during gameplay.
As part of this initiative, Roblox announced the implementation of facial age checks, requiring every player to submit their facial image. The system assesses the submitted image to determine the player’s age, assigning them to specific age categories. Players within the same age range can interact, while those significantly older or younger cannot engage in chat.
Following successful trials in New Zealand, Australia, and the Netherlands, the age verification process is now being officially launched worldwide.
Understanding Roblox’s Age Verification Process
The age verification procedure is straightforward: Upon logging into Roblox, players will be prompted to submit a facial image as part of an age verification test. Here’s how it breaks down:
- Under 9
- 9 – 12
- 13 – 15
- 16 – 17
- 18 – 20
- 21+
These defined age categories facilitate interactions; players are only allowed to chat with others within their designated age bracket, and users immediately above or below can also participate in the same discussions.

For players under the age of 9, the chat feature will be disabled entirely. To reactivate chat capabilities, parental consent will be required following age verification. Furthermore, users who choose not to verify their age will also be restricted from utilizing the in-game chat system, although age verification itself remains optional.
This new feature is set to roll out globally this week, and many players will soon begin to encounter the age verification process on their accounts.
