According to reports, Samsung may have to utilize a MediaTek chipset for the first time in their Galaxy S series phones.
Despite the Samsung Galaxy S25 series being months away, the rumor mill continues to produce fresh leaks and rumors surrounding the upcoming flagship smartphone lineup.
As reported by the South Korean publication Financial News, Samsung has announced that it will be incorporating a MediaTek Dimensity chipset into its new flagship devices in specific regions.
The report does not specify which countries will receive the MediaTek version, but the lineup will feature three distinct chipsets – Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 SoC, Exynos 2500, and a Dimensity chipset that has not been disclosed.
According to a report by South Korean media FNN, Samsung’s Exynos 2500 chip may not meet production requirements due to its low yield. Therefore, Samsung may cooperate with MediaTek to customize chips for Galaxy S25 and S25+smartphones. Although this news lacks some evidence,…

The report is further supported by the trustworthy Chinese tipster IceUniverse, who also provides additional details. According to IceUniverse, the third chipset mentioned in the report is the MediaTek Dimensity D9400, which is expected to be featured in the non-ultra variants of the Galaxy S25.
The speaker also mentions that only South Korea, Europe, and India will have access to the Dimensity D9400-powered Galaxy S25 phones. However, he expresses some skepticism regarding the validity of this speculation. If proven true, this would mark the first instance of Samsung utilizing a MediaTek chipset in their Galaxy S series devices.
Qualcomm will likely be the sole SoC supplier for the Samsung Galaxy S25 (vs. 40% for the S24), as the Exynos 2500 may not ship due to Samsung’s lower-than-expected 3nm yield. In addition to the significant increase in supply share, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 will see a price…

Interestingly, according to TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo on X, Samsung will exclusively use the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chipset in the upcoming Galaxy S25 series. Kuo stated, “Due to lower-than-expected 3nm yield from Samsung, it is likely that Qualcomm will be the sole supplier of the SoC for the Galaxy S25, unlike the previous S24 where they held a 40% share.”
According to both Financial News and IceUniverse, the production of Samsung’s 3nm Exynos 2500 chip may be hindered by its low yield and may not meet requirements.
Financial News reports that Exynos 2500’s current yield is only 20%, falling significantly below the required mass-production threshold of 60%. This limitation has compelled Samsung to seek out an alternative.
Galaxy S24 Lineup
Samsung has implemented a dual chipset approach for their Galaxy S series, enabling them to offer devices featuring their own Exynos chipset and decrease their dependence on Qualcomm.
According to Financial News, the upcoming launch of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 SoC in October is expected to result in a 25-30% increase in cost compared to the previous model. To offset this expense, Samsung could potentially utilize an in-house or more affordable chipset.
Despite this, it is still at least six months until the Galaxy S25 lineup is launched. It would be wise to approach this news with caution until we receive official confirmation from Samsung.
