Skateboarder Sets Two World Records While Skating on Skyscraper

World-renowned skateboarder Sandro Dias has achieved an extraordinary milestone by setting two new world records during an audacious stunt in Porto Alegre, Brazil, recognized as the highest skateboard drop ever recorded.

The 50-year-old athlete executed this record-breaking descent from the striking Centro Administrativo Fernando Ferrari building, utilizing a meticulously designed curved ramp. Measuring an impressive 70 meters (approximately 230 feet), this drop was officially confirmed by representatives from Guinness World Records, ensuring the authenticity of Dias’s remarkable feat.

The specially constructed ramp was engineered using plywood panels to seamlessly integrate with the building’s unique architecture. To ensure a safe landing, air fences were strategically installed at the bottom of the ramp. Dias wore essential protective gear, including a spine protector and custom-designed equipment from Prada Linea Rossa, emphasizing safety during this daring performance.

In addition to the skateboard drop record, Dias also shattered the record for speed, reaching a staggering velocity of 95 kilometers per hour (approximately 59 miles per hour) during a 65-meter drop from the side of the building.

This electrifying event was broadcast live on Red Bull TV and can also be viewed on Red Bull’s YouTube channel, captivating skateboarding enthusiasts globally.

Known affectionately as the “King of the 540, ” Sandro Dias has an illustrious history in the skateboarding world, having notably landed a 900-degree spin in competition—the first Brazilian skater to accomplish this impressive trick. In 2019, he set another milestone by successfully performing a 30-meter drop from Hawaii’s iconic Estaiadinha Bridge in São Paulo.

Beyond his extreme sports accomplishments, Dias is committed to giving back to the community through the Sandro Dias Institute, an organization dedicated to increasing access to skateboarding for underprivileged youth, fostering a passion for skateboarding among the next generation.

Interestingly, Dias is not alone in his record-breaking endeavors, as other thrill-seekers have also made headlines this September. Pro skydiver Natisha Dingle recently reclaimed her title as the world’s fastest woman during a spectacular event in Australia.
