The addition of the new ‘Game Recording’ feature on Steam has made it simpler to record gameplay on the Steam Deck.

Previously, capturing video on the Steam Deck was a burdensome task. Utilizing programs like OBS required entering desktop mode and navigating through a series of tedious steps to get it functioning. However, thanks to this officially confirmed feature, you can easily record gameplay footage of games such as Elden Ring and Kingdom Hearts on your Steam Deck with minimal effort.
The Game Recording feature allows you to choose between two modes: ‘Background Recording’ and ‘On Demand Recording’. These options enable you to either record your gameplay continuously or manually on your handheld device.
Furthermore, a Steam Timeline will be visible while actively recording, displaying event markers for easy replay and reliving of important moments in your preferred Steam Deck games. Additionally, any screenshots taken or achievements earned on the Steam Deck will be documented on the timeline.
For even better results, you can currently access all of the latest Game Recording features. Simply activate the ‘Steam Beta Channel’ in your device’s system settings and you’re ready to begin.
Despite not being as simple as the Nintendo Switch’s press of a button, the new gameplay recording feature may serve as a precursor for a potential dedicated share button on the upcoming Steam Deck.
